LITERATURE OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA<br />

A minor in literature of the African diaspora consists of 18 semester hours and is designed for students<br />

who desire exposure to other cultures via the best in literary expression and seek enhancement of their<br />

analytical and writing skills.<br />

FRENCH LANGUAGE<br />

The French minor is a 21‐credit‐hour program that offers the students learning experiences that help<br />

them understand, speak, read, write, and listen in the target language with a high level of proficiency.<br />

The French language minor will enable students to compete in area businesses and industries with<br />

international branches.<br />

Recommendations: FREN 201, 202, 301, and 302 should be taken in sequence before proceeding to<br />

other courses. A maximum of six transfer credits will be accepted provided they were completed during<br />

the two‐year period preceding enrollment at <strong>Bowie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

SPANISH LANGUAGE<br />

A Spanish language minor may be used with any major in the <strong>University</strong>, including areas such as<br />

business, social work, psychology, education, and science. Students will gain a significant auxiliary skill<br />

with the acquisition of a foreign language. The Spanish language minor is a 21‐credit‐hour program<br />

offering learning experiences that prepare students to understand the language at the conversational<br />

level and to use it in a variety of settings. The Spanish language minor will prepare the <strong>Bowie</strong> graduate<br />

to move into a variety of employment areas or to continue graduate studies at schools where a foreign<br />

language is a prerequisite for admission.<br />
