to the <strong>University</strong> of Baltimore, School of Law are reflected in the official catalog of the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Students interested in preparing for careers in law are encouraged to contact the History and<br />

Government or Behavioral Sciences and Human Services department for advisement.<br />

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT<br />

The Concurrent Enrollment Program is designed for high school juniors and seniors to enroll in collegelevel<br />

courses. The applicant accepted for this program will be enrolled simultaneously in his/her high<br />

school and at <strong>Bowie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The concurrent enrollment student may enroll in a maximum of six<br />

(6) semester hours per semester, depending on the individual student’s background and course load in<br />

high school.<br />

Acceptance in the Concurrent Enrollment Program is based on the recommendation of the applicant’s<br />

high school guidance counselor and the approval of the school principal. All students below the senior<br />

year of high school who have enrolled in the concurrent program must be recertified by the high school<br />

officials before continuing with a second year in the program. Each student can earn up to a total of 18<br />

semester hours.<br />

Concurrent Undergraduate‐Graduate Registration<br />

Seniors at <strong>Bowie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> may register for graduate level courses if the following<br />

requirements/conditions are met:<br />

• the graduate courses are in excess of the credits required for the bachelor’s degree;<br />

• the English Proficiency Examination has been successfully completed;<br />

• the student’s grade point average is 3.0 or better;<br />

• permission has been secured from the student’s advisor and the Dean of the School of Graduate<br />

Studies and Continuing Education; and<br />

• the Graduate Application for Admission has been filed.<br />

Seniors will be permitted to take up to six (6) credits of graduate course work during one semester.<br />

Permission to take courses as a senior does not constitute regular admission to the Graduate School.<br />

SECOND BACHELOR’S DEGREE (INCLUDING TEACHER CERTIFICATION)<br />

Students who hold a baccalaureate degree from <strong>Bowie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> or another university or college<br />

and wish to earn a second baccalaureate degree in a new field are permitted to count toward that<br />

degree any completed courses that can be used to satisfy the general education requirements or<br />

electives. To earn the second degree, students must complete all major and major‐related courses in the<br />

new field as are specified by the new discipline. The chair of the department in which the degree in the<br />

new field is sought will furnish a detailed description of the required program to the Registrar’s Office.<br />

When a student has completed these requirements, he/she is granted the second baccalaureate degree.<br />

Additional requirements for a second baccalaureate degree are as follows:<br />

• Students must hold a baccalaureate degree from <strong>Bowie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> or another accredited<br />

institution;<br />

• Students must complete at least 30 semester hours in residence (these credits cannot be earned<br />

through experiential learning experiences); and<br />

• Students must pass the <strong>Bowie</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> English Proficiency Examination.<br />

Students entering with an undergraduate degree who are seeking certification as teachers may be<br />

admitted to the department as second‐degree students. Each student must schedule an interview with<br />
