Grants are awarded based on enrollment status (full‐time, part‐time, or less than half‐time). Award<br />

limits vary based on Congressional budgeting each year.<br />

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)<br />

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Program is intended to supplement<br />

the Federal Pell Grant and provide additional assistance to the neediest undergraduate students. The<br />

average award ranges from $200 to $4,000 per year.<br />

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)<br />

This federal grant is for first‐year students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2006 and<br />

second‐year students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2005. A student may receive an<br />

ACG grant of up to $750 for the first academic year of study and up to $1,300 for the second academic<br />

year of study.<br />

Recipients must have the following qualifications:<br />

• U.S. citizenship or eligible non‐citizen<br />

• Federal Pell Grant recipient<br />

• Completion of a rigorous high school program of study (required of both first‐ and second‐year<br />

students)<br />

• Full‐time enrollment in a degree program<br />

• A first‐year student (0–29 earned units) must not have taken any college courses after graduating<br />

from high school<br />

• A second‐year student (30–59 earned units) must have a cumulative BSU GPA of at least 3.0<br />

• A second‐year student with transfer units must have at least a 3.0 GPA for the units accepted for<br />

transfer<br />

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (National SMART Grant)<br />

This federal grant is for third‐ and fourth‐year students who are pursuing college majors in high demand<br />

in the global economy. A student may receive up to $4,000 if the student has the following<br />

qualifications:<br />

• U.S. citizenship or eligible non‐citizen<br />

• Federal Pell Grant recipient<br />

• Full‐time enrollment in an undergraduate degree program<br />

• Cumulative BSU GPA of at least 3.0<br />

• Third‐ (60–90 earned units) or fourth‐year student (90–120 earned units)<br />

In addition, students must declare a BSU major approved by the U.S. Department of Education for this<br />

grant. Each term, recipients must take at least one course specific to the eligible major. These majors are<br />

found in science, mathematics, technology, engineering and critical foreign languages. For a list of all<br />

TEACH Grant<br />

The TEACH Grant Program provides up to $4,000 per year ($16,000 total for an undergraduate program)<br />

to full‐time students who plan to teach full time in high‐need subject areas at schools serving students<br />

from low‐income families. Students who attend less than full‐time may receive reduced grant amounts.<br />
