EDUC 102 PRACTICUM I 1 CREDIT<br />

This course provides an opportunity for the student to assist with classroom activities in an early childhood, elementary or secondary setting.<br />

The practicum is completed on Tuesdays or Thursdays each week and extends for a full day. The practicum must be taken concurrently with<br />

EDUC 101.<br />

EDUC 103 MICROCOMP IN AN EDUC SET 3 CREDITS<br />

This course is an introduction to the use of microcomputers in the classroom. Topics will include how a computer operates, a short history of<br />

the development of the computer, the use of prepared software, an examination of existing software, and criteria for assessment of programs.<br />

EDUC 201 HUMAN GRWTH AND DVMT 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): EDUC 101. This course is a study of the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence the growth and development<br />

of the individual from conception to adulthood. Students enrolled in EDUC 201 are required to take Practicum II concurrently.<br />

EDUC 202 PRACTICUM II 1 CREDIT<br />

This course provides an opportunity for the student to complete a case study on an individual pupil in a public school setting. The practicum is<br />

completed on Tuesdays or Thursdays of each week and extends for a full day. The practicum must be taken concurrently with EDUC 201.<br />

EDUC 210 EDUC OF CHILD IN CONT US 3 CREDITS<br />

This course is a study of current educational issues and practices from a political, social, and urban view that explores contemporary problems<br />

in American education.<br />

EDUC 218 SOC & POL ISSUES OF URB EDUC 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): A course in sociology or government. This course is a study of social and political problems in urban education, particularly the<br />

relationship of education to social mobility and residential patterns; problems of desegregation; school decentralization and other forms of<br />

school governance; trends in teacher education.<br />

EDUC 220 TEST CRITERION FOR CERTI 3 CREDITS<br />

This course emphasizes enhancing the student's familiarity and contact with various standardized test formats and their specifications,<br />

objectives, instructions, item designs, and scoring formulas, with particular reference to the PRAXIS EXAMS. A testing fee will be assessed each<br />

student upon registration for the course. This course is a Prerequisite(s) for all other professional sequence courses. The Praxis Lab is a<br />

requirement with this course. The Praxis I is a course requirement.<br />

Prerequisite(s): EDUC 101, EDUC 201. This course is an orientation to the history, trends, values, and content of children's literature and its<br />

importance in the education of young children. Emphasis is on acquiring knowledge of a wide variety of contemporary children's books and<br />

strategies for appreciating, teaching, and evaluating.<br />

EDUC 311 MANAGING THE DIVERSE CLSRM 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): EDUC 101, EDUC 201. This course is an exploration of the characteristics and patterns of behavior of students within a diverse<br />

classroom. Students will develop strategies for managing an orderly and effective learning environment for students.<br />

EDUC 312 THE MIDDLE SCHOOL 3 CREDITS<br />

This course explores the pre‐adolescent and early adolescent and the endeavors of educational systems to meet his/her needs through the<br />

middle school. The unique nature of the eleven to fourteen age group emerging from a variety of psychological and social factors is addressed.<br />

EDUC 314 ASSESS FOR READING INSTR 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): EDUC 101, EDUC 201, EDUC 316. This course is designed to provide teachers with research‐validated strategies and<br />

assessment tools that can be used to enhance reading instruction and meet the needs of individual learners. Specifically, teachers will<br />

comprehend the many purposes of literary assessment and the tools and techniques required to achieve those different purposes. The<br />

dimensions of assessment to include norm‐referenced instruments as well as alternative assessments will be utilized to provide an accurate and<br />

on‐going depiction of the progress of readers.<br />

EDUC 315 PROCESSES AND ACQUISI OF RDNG 3 CREDITS<br />

This course is designed to assist pre‐service teachers in understanding the reading acquisition process. Introduction to lanquage structures<br />

including spoken syllables, phonemes, graphemes and morphemes is included in this course. Participants will be introduced to current<br />

scientific research.<br />

EDUC 316 FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): EDUC 101, EDUC 201. The major historical, social, and philosophical concepts that undergird present educational philosophy,<br />

objectives, forms, and practices are explored in this course. Emphasis is also placed on discussion of the administration of the organization and<br />

the financing of public education laws dealing with American education and values and the teaching of values in a school setting. Admission to<br />

Teacher Education is a course requirement.<br />

EDUC 320 INSTRUC TECH FOR THE CLASSROOM 1 CREDIT<br />

Prerequisite(s): EDUC 201, ENGL 102, COSC 110, SPED 403. This course provides strategies, resources, tools and organizational concepts for<br />

using technology to facilitate classroom learning and school administrative functions.<br />

EDUC 398 COOP‐EDUC 6 CREDITS<br />

EDUC 402 ASSESSMENT & MEASUREMENT 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): EDUC 101, EDUC 201. This course is a study of the construction, validation, and use of tests for diagnosing levels of<br />

achievement and measuring educational outcomes. It is an introduction to the use, administration, and interpretation of standardized tests<br />

and performance‐based assessments.<br />

EDUC 403 FUND OF SIGN LANG COMM 3 CREDITS<br />

This course is designed to facilitate communication between hearing and deaf persons in the workplace, community settings, and other<br />

everyday situations and provides an overview of deafness and the deaf community and the use of sign language as a formidable tool of<br />

communication. Special attention is given to the use of a combination of traditional American signs, finger spelling, and other body dynamics<br />

that play an important role in conveying meaning. This course will not satisfy state certification special education requirements.<br />
