PSYC 307 PSYCHOLOGY OF PERSONALITY (Fall, Spring) 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSYC 101. This course is a study of the theories of personality and an examination of research related to personality<br />

functioning. Includes an historical review and critical evaluation of the four basic perspectives (psychoanalytic, dispositional,<br />

phenomenological, and behavioral), their relation to different areas of psychology, and their application to everyday experience.<br />

PSYC 308 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (Fall, Spring) 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSYC 101. This course is a study of the behavior of individuals as influenced, directly or indirectly by social stimuli. It will<br />

examine thinking, emotions, desires, and judgments of individuals as overt behaviors. Students will study a wide range of social stimuli and not<br />

adhere to one specific frame of reference. Many social institutions will be included, i.e., socialization, family, church, school, sex, race, facial<br />

attractiveness, etc. Students will be exposed to a wide range of social issues as they relate to the individual.<br />

PSYC 309 HISTORY OF PSYCHOLOGY 3 CREDITS<br />

This course explores the history of psychology including the development of major psychological theories, important events, and biographies of<br />

influential theorists in the discipline.<br />

PSYC 310 AGING, DEATH AND DYING (Spring Only) 3 CREDIT<br />

This course is a survey of the social, economic, psychological, and biochemical problems involved in understanding and accepting the process of<br />

aging and the experiences of the death of loved ones, friends, or acquaintances.<br />

PSYC 311 CROSS CULTURAL PSYCHOLOGY (Fall, Spring) 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSYC 101. This course examines the historical, theoretical, and methodological perspectives from which the study of culture<br />

and cultural differences emerge. It explores the impact of culture on the psychological development of humans. Specific topics will include<br />

how culture influences cognition, personality, social development, and psychopathology.<br />

PSYC 312 SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY (Fall, Spring) 3 CREDITS<br />

This course presents research and applications in the domain of sports psychology. It also will examine the historical background and issues of<br />

ethics in its practice.<br />

PSYC 320 PHYSIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSYC 101. This course is an investigation into the neurophysiological correlates and systems underlying behavior. The<br />

physiological processes involved in sensorimotor activity, motivation, learning and cognition are examined.<br />

PSYC 321 SENSATION AND PERCEPTION (Fall Only) 3 CREDIT<br />

This course will examine research and theories related to our sensory experience of the objects and events in our environment. each of the<br />

senses will be considered from biological and phenomenological perspectives, and the process will be examined by which we derive meaning<br />

from sensory activity. Topics will include psychophysics, vision, audition, speech perception, and the chemical senses.<br />

PSYC 330 HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY (Fall Only) 3 CREDITS<br />

This course will introduce students to the growing profession of Health Psychologyhology. Students will be exposed to the relevant background<br />

research, theory and practice goals related to the profession of Health Psychologyhology. Students will also gain experience in the assessment<br />

and interpretation of health and behavior related measures.<br />

PSYC 398 COOP‐PSYCHOLOGY 6 CREDITS<br />

PSYC 401 PSYCHOLOGY OF DRUG USE & ABUSE (Fall Only) 3 CREDITS<br />

This course examines how drugs affect psychological variables such as cognition, emotion, and behavior. The basic physiological mechanisms<br />

of pharmacokinetics and neurotransmission are explored. Their relation to the areas of mental health, addictions, and social issues are<br />

discussed in detail. Students' personal health and decision‐making are stressed within the context of age, gender, social stress, cultural<br />

diversity, and public policy. Prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation are considered for each of the several drug classifications.<br />

PSYC 403 INDUSTRIAL ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY (Spring Only) 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSYC 202 and PSYC 204. This course is a study of behavior as it occurs in business and the industrial environment. Content<br />

areas include the methodology of industrial psychology, personnel psychology, human factors, engineering psychology, human relations, and<br />

consumer psychology.<br />

PSYC 404 PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMT (Fall, Spring) 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSYC 204 and PSYC 205. This course is a study of individual and group psychological tests in the areas of aptitudes, intelligence,<br />

and personality. Emphasis is given to the general principles involved in test construction and utilization.<br />

PSYC 407 FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY (Fall Only) 3 CREDIT<br />

Prerequisite(s): PSYC 101. This course promotes an understanding of the relationship between psychology and law by showing how<br />

psychological research and theory can inform the legal process. It will examine issues related to forensic psychology, witness testimony and the<br />

social psychology of the courtroom. Topics will include witness credibility, criminal profiling, insanity and the law, jury selection and<br />

competency issues. Additional topics and case studies will include recovered memories, adolescent violence, obtaining information from child<br />

witnesses, expert testimony, the polygraph, and psychological factors in eyewitness testimony<br />

PSYC 410 GROUP DYNAMICS (Spring Only) 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): Junior or Senior Standing. This course is an analysis of the role and function of group procedures with special emphasis on the<br />

elements of group process and interaction. Attention is given to the relevant research in group procedures. Group procedures are dealt with<br />

at both the didactic and experiential levels.<br />

PSYC 412 EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY (Spring Only) 3 CREDITS<br />

This course is an application of learning processes and theories, individual differences, measurement, motivation, emotions, intelligence,<br />

problem solving, thinking and communication in educational settings.<br />

PSYC 421 INDEPENDENT RESEARCH (Spring Only) 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): Permission of Department Chair. This course involves individual planning and execution of a research project under the<br />

direction of a faculty member.<br />

PSYC 431 SEMINAR IN PSYCHOLOGY (Fall, Spring) 3 CREDITS<br />

Prerequisite(s): Psychology Major with Senior Standing or Permission of Instructor. A capstone course for graduating psychology majors. This<br />

course examines selected topics in the field of psychology. It features student‐led presentations and discussions using an array of assigned<br />

readings from various sources and focuses on current issues and trends in contemporary psychology.<br />
