Clinical<br />

NURS 410 Care of Complex Clients<br />

3 Credits<br />

This course prepares the student to care for clients experiencing serious or life‐threatening illnesses. Course content includes theories related<br />

to critical care and selected acute health and terminal problems. Synthesizing the curriculum concepts, the student will evaluate the application<br />

of the nursing process when intervening for seriously ill or terminally ill clients.<br />

Prerequisites: Completion of NURS 406/409, 415/416, with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

NURS 411 Care of Complex Clients Clinical<br />

2 Credits<br />

This clinical course focuses on the nursing care of critically ill clients. The student will complete holistic assessments, and implement and<br />

evaluate therapeutic nursing interventions for critically ill clients in a variety of critical care settings.<br />

This course must be taken concurrently with NURS 410.<br />

NURS 412 Transition into Profession Nursing Practice Clinical<br />

2 Credits<br />

The clinical portion of the course provides opportunities for students to implement strategies to solve a management problem. Students will<br />

have the opportunity to manage a unit, group of clients/or peers and collaborate as members of the health care team in response to the wealth<br />

of ethnic and culturally diverse clients and staff. In addition, students complete an organizational assessment. Various health settings may be<br />

utilized within the community to enhance learning. As the culminating course of the curriculum, emphasis is placed on synthesis of curriculum<br />

concepts and their applicability to professional nursing practice.<br />

This course must be taken concurrently with NURS 425<br />

Clinical<br />

NURS 415 Nursing Care of the Child and Family<br />

3 Credits<br />

This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills required for the provision of therapeutic and culturally congruent nursing care,<br />

to children and their families. Course content includes growth and development of the child and adolescent, the changing family structure and<br />

its impact on the child. Students will examine the social, economic, political and environmental factors affecting health promotion and illness<br />

prevention. Issues surrounding culture, religion, legal considerations, and ethics are discussed. Relevant nursing research and evidence‐based<br />

interventions are presented. Prerequisites: Completion of NURS 380/381, NURS 385/386, NURS 400, SOWK 300 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

NURS 416 Nursing Care of the Child and Family Clinical<br />

2 Credits<br />

This clinical course focuses on the nursing care of children and adolescents within the family system. Applying the concepts of caring behaviors,<br />

communication, critical thinking, leadership, nursing process, and professional nursing role, students will implement therapeutic nursing<br />

interventions specific for selected children and adolescents in acute and community‐based health care settings<br />

This course must be taken concurrently with NURS 415.<br />

NURS 425 Transition into Professional Nursing Practice<br />

3 Credits<br />

This course is designed to provide students with an overview of content related to leadership and management theories and to examine<br />

multiple nursing issues. Emphasis is two fold: (1) it is placed on broadening students’ understanding of the role(s) and responsibilities of<br />

professional nursing, and on recognizing the need for continuing professional learning and, (2) gaining an understanding of the role of the nurse<br />

in managing others in the provision of direct care to the client.<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of NURS 415/416, and NURS 406/409 with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

NURS 499 Nursing Comprehensive Exit Examination<br />

0 Credits<br />

This is a Pass/Fail exam that is required for all traditional baccalaureate nursing students. Successful completion of the Comprehensive exam is<br />

required to satisfy requirements for graduation.<br />
