WARNING: Installation, disassembly, repair and maintenance must
be performed only by qualified personnel.
Remove all pressure from system before removing filling connector,
then release lever lock and lift lever to vertical (valve open)
position. Remove entire valve from line before performing repairs.
Installation, usage and maintenance of this product must be in
compliance with all Engineered Controls International, Inc. instructions
as well as requirements and provisions of NFPA #54, NFPA
#58, DOT, ANSI, all applicable federal, state, provincial and local
must be released outdoors in air currents that will insure dispersion
to prevent exposure to people and livestock. LP-Gas must be kept
far enough from any open flame or other source of ignition to
Disassembly and Repair Procedure
CAUTION: READ THROUGH ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS, IN-
CLUDING THE NOTICE AND WARNINGS ON THE BACK OF THIS
SHEET, BEFORE BEGINNING ANY DISASSEMBLY OR REPAIR.
NOTE: Repairs must be performed in a clean area. Hands, clothing,
tools and work area must be completely free of oil, grease and foreign
matter to prevent contamination of component parts and valves.
Before repairing valve, thoroughly examine valve lever and all associated
parts for excessive wear. Check valve handle for proper function, and
ACME threads for excessive wear and damage. Check surface of filling
connector that seats on filler valve gasket when the valve is used, and
make sure it has a smooth surface. Any components that are not in good
condition and fully operational should be replaced during repairs.
Disassembly:
1. Clamp valve body in a vise by hex section of body inlet.
2. With valve lever in open position, remove entire bonnet assembly by
turning clockwise (left-hand thread), using a 1 11 /16" wrench.
3. Remove upper gasket and discard.
4. Clean cement residue from body threads using a wire brush.
Thoroughly clean all parts of body assembly. Set valve body
assembly aside for later reassembly.
5. Return lever to horizontal (valve closed) position.
6. Knock out groove pin with a 1 /4" drift pin.
7. Remove lever. Discard bonnet washer.
8. Pull stem assembly, together with lower spring, out from bottom of
bonnet and keep together. Carefully inspect stem for scoring or
scratches in stem seal area. Deep grooves or scars are cause for
replacement of the stem and spring.
9. Clamp the hex section of bonnet in a vise. Turn seal housing
counterclockwise with a wrench and carefully remove from bonnet.
10. Remove housing washer, jam ring, pressure seal rings and O-ring
from seal housing and discard.
11. Remove upper spring and bonnet gasket from bonnet. Discard
gasket and save spring for reassembly.
12. Place seat disc retainer end of valve assembly (removed in step 2)
in a vise with the slotted end up.
NOTE: Make sure end of disc retainer sticks out of vise enough to
expose seat disc and retaining screw.
13. Remove retaining screw by turning counterclockwise with a large
screwdriver, and discard old seat disc.
14. Remove old Loctite from threads of disc retainer with a wire brush.
15. Press new seat disc in place over center of seat disc retainer. Large
diameter of seat disc is inserted first.
16. Apply Loctite sparingly to threads of retaining screw and thread into
seat disc retainer using 30 in/lbs torque.
