NOTICE LP-Gas is extremely flammable and explosive. Failure to install parts exactly as described in the instructions could result in a product that will not perform satisfactorily. Even if parts are correctly installed, the product might fail to perform satisfactorily if other parts are worn, corroded or dirty. Improper repair can cause leaks and malfunction, which could result in bodily injury and property damage. Any such use or installation of parts must ONLY be done by experienced and trained personnel using accepted governmental and industrial safety procedures. Most Engineered Controls International, Inc. products are listed with Underwriters Laboratories as manufactured. If repaired, the continued validity of the UL listing is contingent upon proper inspection to determine what needs repairing, proper repair using Engineered Controls International, Inc. parts and procedures, and proper testing for leakage and performance following repairs and installation. Engineered Controls International, Inc. assumes no responsibility or liability for performance of products repaired in the field. It must be clearly understood that the person or organization repairing the product assumes total responsibility for performance of the product. LIMITED WARRANTY AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY Limited Warranty Engineered Controls International, Inc. warrants products and repair kits manufactured by it to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a period of 12 months from the date of installation or operation or 18 months from the date of shipment from the factory, whichever is earlier. If within thirty days after buyer's discovery of what buyer believes is a defect, buyer notifies Engineered Controls International, Inc. thereof in writing, Engineered Controls International, Inc., at its option, and within forty-five days, will repair, replace F.O.B. point of manufacture, or refund the purchase price of that part or product found by it to be defective. Failure of buyer to give such written notice within thirty days shall be deemed an absolute and unconditional waiver of any and all claims of buyer arising out of such defect.. This warranty does not extend to any product or part that is not installed and used in accordance with Engineered Controls International, Inc.'s printed instructions, all applicable state and local regulations, and all applicable national standards, such as those promulgated by NFPA, DOT and ANSI. This warranty does not extend to any product or part that has been damaged by accident, misuse, abuse or neglect, nor does it extend to any product or part which has been modified, altered, or repaired in the field. Except as expressly set forth above, and subject to the limitation of liability below, Engineered Controls International, Inc. makes NO OTHER WARRANTY, EX- PRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WAR- RANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PUR- POSE, with respect to its products and parts, whether used alone or in combination with others. Engineered Controls International, Inc. disclaims all warranties not stated herein. Limitation of Liability Engineered Controls International, Inc.'s total liability for any and all losses and damages arising out of any cause whatsoever shall in no event exceed the purchase price of the products or parts in respect of which such cause arises, whether such cause be based on theories of contract, negligence, strict liability, tort or otherwise. Engineered Controls International, Inc. shall not be liable for incidental, consequential or punitive damages or other losses. Engineered Controls International, Inc. shall not be liable for, and buyer assumes liability for, all personal injury and property damage connected with the handling, transportation, possession, further manufacture, other use or resale of products, whether used alone or in combination with any other products or material. If Engineered Controls International, Inc. furnishes technical advice to buyer, whether or not at buyer's request, with respect to application, further manufacture or other use of the products and parts, Engineered Controls International, Inc. shall not be liable for such technical advice and buyer assumes all risks of such advice and the results thereof. NOTE: Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary from State to State. The portions of this limited warranty and limitation of liability shall be considered severable and all portions which are not disallowed by applicable law shall remain in full force and effect. WARNING All Engineered Controls International, Inc. products are mechanical devices that will eventually become inoperative due to wear, corrosion and aging of components made of materials such as rubber, etc. The environment and conditions of use will determine the safe service life of these products. Periodic inspection and maintenance are essential to avoid serious injury and property damage. Many Engineered Controls International, Inc. products are manufactured components which are incorporated by others on or in other products or systems used for storage, transport, transfer and otherwise for use of toxic, flammable and dangerous liquids and gases. Such substances must be handled by experienced and trained personnel only, using accepted governmental and industrial safety procedures. NOTICE TO USERS OF PRODUCTS The Limited Warranty stated above is a factory warranty to the first purchasers of Engineered Controls International, Inc. products. Since most users have purchased these products from Engineered Controls International, Inc. distributors, the user must within thirty (30) days after the user's discovery of what user believes is a defect, notify in writing the distributor from whom he purchased the product/parts. The distributor may or may not at the distributor's option, choose to submit the product/parts to Engineered Controls International, Inc., pursuant to its Limited Warranty. Failure by buyer to give such written notice within thirty (30) days shall be deemed an absolute and unconditional waiver of buyer's claim for such defects. Acceptance of any alleged defective product/parts by Engineered Controls International, Inc.'s distributor for replacement or repairs under the terms of Engineered Controls International, Inc.'s Limited Warranty in no way obligates Engineered Controls International, Inc. to the terms of the above warranty. Because of a policy of continuous product improvement, Engineered Controls International, Inc. reserves the right to change designs, materials or specifications without notice. WARNING: Installation, usage and maintenance of this product must be in compliance with all Engineered Controls International, Inc. instructions as well as requirements and provisions of NFPA #54, NFPA #58, DOT, ANSI, all applicable federal, state, provincial and local standards, codes, regulations and laws. Inspection and maintenance on a periodic basis is essential. Installation and maintenance should be performed only by qualified personnel. Be sure all instructions are read and understood before installation, operation and maintenance. These instructions must be passed along to the end user of the product. CAUTION: Contact or inhalation of liquid propane, ammonia and their vapors can cause serious injury or death! NH3 and LP-Gas must be released outdoors in air currents that will insure dispersion to prevent exposure to people and livestock. LP-Gas must be kept far enough from any open flame or other source of ignition to prevent fire or explosion! LP-Gas is heavier than air and will not disperse or evaporate rapidly if released in still air. Operating Instructions These instructions must be included with other tank operating instructions. Chek-Lok Excess Flow Valves ECII ® Chek-Lok excess flow valves are designed to provide a convenient means of withdrawing liquid from stationary tanks prior to moving the tank. These valves are not intended for permanent liquid withdrawal installations. They allow for compliance with NFPA Pamphlet 58 standards which state that every container with more than 125 gallons water capacity built after July 1, 1961, has a connection for liquid evacuation, at least 3 /4" NPT size, and that every container designed for stationary use contains no more propane than 5% of their water capacity during transportation. Chek-Lok Adapters It is recommended that these brass adapters (7572C-14A and 7572C-15A) should be connected to ECII ® Chek-Lok excess flow valves to open the check mechanism properly. A built-in nylon gasket provides a gas-tight seal. CAUTION: Wear approved protective gloves and eye protection when working with Chek-Loks. Do not vent LP-Gas near possible sources of ignition. Use an ECII ® 7550P angle valve with an ECII ® adapter 7572C- 14A ( 3 /4" NPT female connection) or 7572C-15A ( 3 /4" NPT male connection). Use an ECII ® 7550P without an adapter in an emergency only. 7572FC & 7580FC Chek-Lok ® Excess Flow Valves To Put Chek-Lok In Service 1. Use an ECII ® 7550P angle valve or assemble a suitable capacity shutoff valve such as an ECII ® A7505AP, A7506AP or 7705P to ECII ® adapters (see below). 2. Loosen 8594-3A plug to vent accumulated LP-Gas from Chek-Lok. If venting does not stop, retighten plug and use other approved means to withdraw liquid. NOTE: Use a suitable size wrench to remove cap and adapter so as to not remove Chek-Lok from tank at the same time. 3. Close shut-off valve to permit excess flow valve to open. 4. If for some reason the Chek-Lok does not open after following this procedure, then it is a simple matter to equalize pressures by introducing vapor pressure from the vapor return valve on top of the tank to the downstream side of the Chek-Lok or by pumping liquid back through the Chek-Lok. To Re-Lock Chek-Lok 1. Tank pressure must be in excess of 35 PSIG. 2. Close shut-off valve and disconnect hose or piping. 3. Open shut-off valve fully. Liquid discharging to atmosphere should cause the excess flow valve to close, provided tank pressure is 35 PSIG or more. If, for any reason, the excess flow valve does not close, the shut-off valve must be closed immediately and must not be removed until the system can be evacuated and the unit repaired. 4. After the excess flow valve closes, remove ECII ® adapter or pipe nipple to which shut-off valve is attached. 5. Clean face of Chek-Lok and install 8594-3A plug with 8594-1A gasket. IMPORTANT: Use only 8594-3A plug. Do not use standard pipe plug. Chek-Lok Mounting ECII ® Chek-Lok valves may be bottom mounted or top mounted with a dip tube. For bottom mounting, it is preferable to position the coupling in the shell or head, slightly off bottom, to avoid accumulation of sludge, etc..., around the check valve which could affect the proper operation of the excess flow valve.
