WARNING: Installation, disassembly, repair and maintenance<br />

must be performed only by qualified personnel.<br />

Maintenance may be performed with the valve installed or with<br />

valve removed from the line. In either case, the gas supply must<br />

be isolated from the line by closing a separate shut-off valve.<br />

Installation, usage and maintenance of this product must be in<br />

compliance with all Engineered Controls International, Inc. instructions<br />

as well as requirements and provisions of NFPA #54, NFPA<br />

#58, DOT, ANSI, all applicable federal, state, provincial and local<br />

standards, codes, regulations and laws.<br />

Inspection and maintenance on a periodic basis is essential.<br />

Be sure all instructions are read and understood before installation,<br />

operation and maintenance. These instructions must be<br />

passed along to the end user of the product.<br />

CAUTION: Contact or inhalation of liquid propane, ammonia and<br />

their vapors can cause serious injury or death! NH3 and LP-Gas<br />

must be released outdoors in air currents that will insure dispersion<br />

to prevent exposure to people and livestock. LP-Gas must be<br />

kept far enough from any open flame or other source of ignition<br />

to prevent fire or explosion! LP -Gas is heavier than air and may<br />

not disperse or evaporate rapidly if released in still air.<br />

Disassembly and <strong>Repair</strong> Procedure<br />

CAUTION: READ THROUGH ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS,<br />

INCLUDING THE NOTICE AND WARNINGS ON THE BACK OF<br />

THIS SHEET, BEFORE BEGINNING ANY DISASSEMBLY OR REPAIR.<br />

NOTE: <strong>Repair</strong>s must be performed in a clean area. Hands, clothing,<br />

tools and work area must be completely free of oil, grease and foreign<br />

matter to prevent contamination of component parts and valves.<br />

A. Disassembly<br />

1. Turn handwheel counterclockwise as far as it will go to release<br />

any gas remaining in the area of repair.<br />

CAUTION: Do not apply force after valve is fully open.<br />

2. Clamp the valve in a vise.<br />

3. Grip the hex section of the bonnet with a suitable wrench and turn<br />

clockwise until it can be removed from body.<br />

CAUTION: Bonnet has left hand thread, indicated by notches on<br />

the hex edge.<br />

4. Remove bonnet gasket and discard.<br />

5. For A8016 and A8018 type valves, remove ACME Fitting gasket<br />

and discard.<br />

B. Seat Disc Replacement – A8017DH Valves Only – Figure 2<br />

1. Clamp the hex section of the bonnet in a vise with the seat disc<br />

facing up.<br />

2. While holding the seat disc retainer with a 1 1 /16" wrench, use a<br />

/4" wrench to turn the back cap counterclockwise. Remove and<br />

save for reassembly.<br />

3. Remove the small spring and the bypass seat disc assembly found<br />

under the back cap. Save for reassembly.<br />

4. Remove and discard the bypass seat disc. Replace with the new<br />

bypass seat disc included in this kit.<br />

5. Remove the washer and save for reassembly.<br />

6. Remove the main seat disc and discard. Thoroughly clean the<br />

recess area using a wire brush.<br />

7. Install the new seat disc into the recess of the seat disc retainer.<br />

8. Replace the washer onto the seat disc.<br />

9. Reinstall the bypass seat disc assembly as shown in Figure 2.<br />

10. Apply two drops of loctite thread cement across threads on<br />

opposite sides of the seat disc retainer. Reinstall backcap by turning<br />

clockwise.<br />

11. Make sure that the seat disc & retainer assembly can turn freely<br />

on the valve stem. NOTE: If any binding is experienced, the stem<br />

holder and swivel pin must be replaced.<br />

C. Seat Disc Replacement – A8016, A8018, & A8020 – Figure 3<br />

1. Clamp the hex section of the bonnet in a vise with the seat disc<br />

facing up.<br />

2. While holding the seat disc retainer with a 1 1 /16" wrench, use a<br />

/16" wrench to remove the disc retaining nut. Save for reassembly.<br />

3. Remove the washer and save for reassembly.<br />

4. Remove the main seat disc and discard. Thoroughly clean the<br />

recess area using a wire brush.<br />

5. Install the new seat disc into the recess of the seat disc retainer.<br />

6. Relace the washer onto the seat disc.<br />
