must be performed only by qualified personnel.<br />

MAINTENANCE ON THE UPPER BODY SHOULD BE PERFORMED<br />

AFTER ALL GAS IS EVACUATED FROM THE CONTAINER AND<br />

THE VALVE REMOVED.<br />

Installation, usage, and maintenance of this product must be in<br />

compliance with all Engineered Controls International, Inc.<br />

instructions as well as requirements and provisions of NFPA #54,<br />

NFPA #58, DOT, ANSI, all applicable federal, state, provincial and<br />

local standards, codes, regulations and laws.<br />

Inspection and maintenance on a periodic basis is essential.<br />

Be sure all instructions are read and understood before<br />

installation, operation and maintenance. These instructions must<br />

be passed along to the end user of the product.<br />

CAUTION: Contact or inhalation of liquid propane, ammonia and<br />

their vapors can cause serious injury or death! NH3 and LP-Gas<br />

must be released outdoors in air currents that will insure dispersion<br />

to prevent exposure to people and livestock. LP-Gas must be kept<br />

far enough from any open flame or other source of ignition to<br />

prevent fire or explosion! LP-Gas is heavier than air and may not<br />

disperse or evaporate rapidly if released in still air.<br />

Disassembly and <strong>Repair</strong> Procedure<br />

CAUTION: READ THROUGH ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS, IN-<br />

CLUDING THE NOTICE AND WARNINGS ON THE BACK OF THIS<br />

SHEET, BEFORE BEGINNING ANY DISASSEMBLY OR REPAIR.<br />

NOTE: <strong>Repair</strong>s must be performed in a clean area. Hands, clothing,<br />

tools and work area must be completely free of oil, grease and foreign<br />

matter to prevent contamination of component parts and valve.<br />

A. Disassembly<br />

1. Remove cap and save for reassembly.<br />

2. Carefully remove gasket located inside opening of upper body.<br />

Discard.<br />

3. Clamp the lower body of valve in a vise with the filler opening up.<br />

4. Remove upper body by turning counterclockwise with a 1 5 /16"<br />

wrench that can develop at least 2000 in/lbs torque.<br />

8555-50 and 8555-80 Assemblies<br />

for 8555 Multivalves<br />

Manufactured after October 1990<br />

5. Remove and discard stem and seat disc assembly, spring, and<br />

stem guide.<br />

NOTE: Be careful not to scratch lower body in seal area.<br />

6. Inspect lower and upper body and clean if necessary. Be sure<br />

interior and seal areas are free of dirt, residue and foreign particles.<br />

B. Reassembly<br />

1. Install new stem guide into lower body as shown.<br />

2. Place new spring over stem guide as shown.<br />

3. Insert new stem and seat disc assembly into spring.<br />

4. Apply two drops of a high strength thread locking compound to the<br />

male threads of upper body that mate with the lower body.<br />

CAUTION: COMPOUND MUST NOT CONTACT SEAT DISC.<br />

5. Press stem and seat disc assembly into stem guide until the lower<br />

end of assembly is exposed. Hold in position with the eraser end of<br />

a pencil.<br />

6. Place upper body over pencil and thread into lower body. Tighten<br />

to 700-900 in/lbs torque with a 1 5 /16" wrench.<br />

CAUTION: Unless stem and seat disc assembly is held in stem<br />

guide during assembly, internal parts of valve may be damaged<br />

and threads of upper body and lower body will not engage<br />

properly.<br />

7. Depress and release stem and seat disc assembly a few times. If<br />

freedom of movement or proper seating is not possible,<br />

disassemble and repeat steps B-2 through B-6.<br />

8. Install new gasket inside opening of upper body as shown.<br />

9. Reinstall valve and pressurize container. Check valve for proper<br />

operation. Check all seal points for leaks by applying a leak<br />

detection solution.<br />

10. Replace cap.<br />
