Segment 6: Kerners Mill Creek Spur Trail
This segment of the trail system is approximately 2.4 miles in length and will consist of a 10-foot-wide
multi-use trail constructed of asphalt, gravel, boardwalk and/or concrete where deemed necessary due to site
conditions and maintenance issues.
The Kerners Mill Creek spur trail will allow residents and visitors of the Kerners Mill Creek corridor to
access the primary trail. The trail can be accessed either via the YMCA spur trail or via the primary trail at
Civitan Park. The spur trail link will provide views of remaining farmland in the central downtown core of
Kernersville. Old Kernersville Lake Park will double as a destination and will also offer parking and park
amenities. At the present time there are no maps available that show the built-out parking areas and structures
for Old Kernersville Lake Park.
The spur trail offers an opportunity to provide a link to Kernersville Elementary School via a portion
of the existing railroad corridor between Cherry Street and Nelson Street. The spur trail follows the concept
of the primary Piedmont Greenway System by providing
school access including recreational and educational opportunities
for students and trail users.
