Segment 8: Civitan Park to Triad Park
This segment of the Piedmont Greenway trail system is approximately 1.7 miles in length and will
consist of a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail constructed of asphalt and/or concrete where deemed necessary due
to site conditions and maintenance issues.
This segment leaves the urban character of Kernersville and represents the most challenging link into
Triad Park. Many alternatives were considered for this alignment. To the south there are sidewalk improvements
scheduled, however, there are numerous automobile and trail-user conflicts along West Mountain
Street and/or the railroad ROW.
The Town of Kernersville has already secured some fragmented greenway easements to the north that
would improve the alignment. As the trail leaves Civitan Park along Nelson School Road, the sidewalk system
will need to be extended past Piney Grove Road until reaching the AutoZone store where the trail will
cross Main Street and continue north along the southern side
to the Sara Lee Complex. At this juncture, the trail will leave
the road system and become a multi-use off-road trail.
SEGMENT 8
The trail will follow a small drainage channel until reaching
the Town of Kernersville greenway easement near Gralin
Street. The drainage channel becomes a small section of the
southernmost part of Reedy Fork Creek as it exits Triad Park.
The trail will continue along the creek's southern bank, taking
advantage of some small segments of town easements as
far as Triad Park. As the trail enters Triad Park, the Piedmont
Greenway will take advantage of the planned and existing
trails. Triad Park is the central hub for the greenway and will
serve as a major trailhead. Trail users will be able to take advantage
of the amenities of the park and its resources.
