DESCRIPTION<br />
Escort Vessel – A vessel intended to provide assistance to disabled vessels in emergencies<br />
involving impaired maneuverability due to loss <strong>of</strong> propulsion or steering or both. Such vessels<br />
complying with <strong>the</strong> requirements in Part 5, Chapter 13 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>ABS</strong> Rules for Building and <strong>Class</strong>ing<br />
Steel Vessels Under 90 meters (295 feet) in Length will be distinguished by <strong>the</strong> classification<br />
designation Escort Vessel<br />
Escort Vessel (Fire Fighting Vessel <strong>Class</strong> 2) – This notation is to be assigned to Dual Purpose<br />
vessels designed and built to <strong>the</strong> requirements <strong>of</strong> Part 5, Chapter 13 <strong>of</strong> <strong>ABS</strong> Rules for Building and<br />
<strong>Class</strong>ing Steel Vessels Under 90 meters (295 feet) in Length and maybe designated as Escort<br />
Vessel (Fire Fighting Vessel <strong>Class</strong> 2 or 1 or 3).<br />
