HSC Naval Craft<br />

HSC Coastal Naval Craft<br />

HSC Riverine Naval Craft<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

HSC Naval Craft – This notation is assigned to naval vessels that have been built in accordance with<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>ABS</strong> Guide for Building and <strong>Class</strong>ing High-Speed Naval Craft, or equivalent and approved by <strong>the</strong><br />

Committee. Such craft will be distinguished in <strong>the</strong> Record by <strong>the</strong> symbols À A1 HSC Naval Craft<br />

À AMS indicating compliance with <strong>the</strong> hull and machinery requirements <strong>of</strong> this Guide. Naval Craft<br />

notation is to be assigned to naval vessels that are intended to operate in <strong>the</strong> littoral environment, but<br />

are capable <strong>of</strong> open ocean voyages. Naval craft are limited to a maximum voyage <strong>of</strong> 300 miles from a<br />

safe harbor when operating in <strong>the</strong> Winter Seasonal Zones as indicated in Annex II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> International<br />

Conference on Load Lines, 1966. When operating on an open ocean voyage, craft are to avoid<br />

tropical cyclones and o<strong>the</strong>r severe wea<strong>the</strong>r events.<br />

HSC Coastal Naval Craft – This notation is to be assigned to naval vessels that are intended to<br />

operate on a coastal voyage with a maximum distance from safe harbor <strong>of</strong> 300 miles and a maximum<br />

voyage <strong>of</strong> 150 miles from a safe harbor when operating in <strong>the</strong> Winter Seasonal Zones as indicated in<br />

Annex II <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> International Conference on Load Lines, 1966. Coastal Naval Craft are not permitted<br />

to perform transoceanic movements.<br />

HSC Riverine Naval Craft – This notation is to be assigned to naval vessels that are intended to<br />

operate in rivers, harbors, and coastlines with a maximum distance from safe harbor <strong>of</strong> 50 miles.<br />

Riverine Naval Craft are not permitted to perform transoceanic movements.<br />
