Ice <strong>Class</strong> A5, A4, A3, A2, A1<br />
DESCRIPTION<br />
The ice streng<strong>the</strong>ning notations Ice <strong>Class</strong> A5, A4, A3, A2, and A1 are optional notations that<br />
indicate that <strong>the</strong> vessel is suitable for navigating independently in multi-year ice in accordance with<br />
<strong>the</strong> applicable requirements <strong>of</strong> Section 6-1-1 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>ABS</strong> Rules for Building and <strong>Class</strong>ing Steel<br />
Vessels. See 6-1-1/<strong>Table</strong> 1 for guidance in selecting <strong>the</strong> most suitable ice class for <strong>the</strong> operational<br />
regions and periods, and ice conditions.<br />
