À ABCU<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

Automatic Bridge Centralized Control Unmanned (ABCU) – This notation is assigned to a selfpropelled<br />

vessel which is fitted with <strong>the</strong> required automation and remote monitoring and control<br />

systems to enable <strong>the</strong> propulsion machinery space to be periodically unattended (similar to an ACCU<br />

classed vessel) and <strong>the</strong> propulsion control to be effected primarily from <strong>the</strong> navigation bridge. The<br />

Maltese Cross À symbol signifies that <strong>the</strong> pertinent automatic or remote control and monitoring<br />

systems have been assembled, tested and installed under survey by <strong>the</strong> Bureau.<br />

systems and <strong>the</strong> equipment are in full compliance with <strong>the</strong> applicable requirements 4-7-1/1 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>ABS</strong> Rules for Building<br />

and <strong>Class</strong>ing Steel Vessels Under 90 meters (295 feet) in Length.<br />

REMARKS<br />

<strong>Class</strong> Notation<br />

This notation was available for unrestricted service large vessels, greater than 90 meters in length,<br />

whose signed contracts were made between owners and shipbuilder until 31 December 1999. After<br />

this date, <strong>the</strong> ABCU notation was terminated for new construction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se large vessels whose<br />

automation system arrangements are primarily in accordance with <strong>the</strong> ACCU requirements.<br />
