Minister for Trade and Customs, Thomas White, feared that <strong>Jewish</strong> immigration would<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>’s primary purpose was to garner votes for<br />

Roosevelt in the up<strong>com</strong>ing national elections and to generate “anti-Fascist currents” and<br />

anti-German propaganda. 151 <strong>The</strong> Berlin Der Weltkampf noted in 1939 that Germany<br />

openly admitted that it did not want any Jews to reside within its borders while the<br />

democratic nations continued to maintain that they were “willing to receive them—then<br />

leave the guest out in the cold. Aren’t we savages better men after all?” 152<br />

Ominously and reflective <strong>of</strong> a hardening Nazi policy towards its Jews, Das<br />

Schwarze Korps called for the economic dislocation and ghettoization <strong>of</strong> Jews within<br />

Germany. Destitute Jews, confined to limited living space, would consequently pose a<br />
