Sprinkler test<br />

General information<br />

Sprinkler fire-extinguishing systems in particular are used for<br />

protecting cable conduits and cable ducts. Here it is predominantly<br />

the cooling effect of the water on the surface of the fire<br />

which is exploited. Operation of the sprinkler for at least<br />

30 minutes should be assumed.<br />

Siemens has subjected its BD2A/BD2C busbar trunking systems<br />

to an extensive range of tests with sprinkler systems. Due<br />

to the absence of a mandatory standard or directive, the test was<br />

performed using a test setup which mirrored a practical application<br />

(see the sketch).<br />

Test results<br />

With the BD2A/BD2C busbar trunking system, the system with<br />

IP54 degree of protection was sprinkled in all fitted positions<br />

paying close consideration to the "VdS" guidelines for sprinkler<br />

systems. The insulation resistance was measured before and<br />

after sprinkling for 90 minutes, and a high voltage test according<br />

to EN 60439-2 was performed. This test was absolved successfully<br />

and indicated that the system could be operated immediately<br />

after sprinkling without any delays.<br />
