IMMACULATA SCHOLARSHIPSAND GRANTS<br />
THE COLLEGE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES<br />
<strong>Immaculata</strong> awards a variety of scholarships and grants<br />
each year to entering full-time freshmen and transfers in the College<br />
of <strong>Undergraduate</strong> Studies. The student<br />
• must enroll full-time and pay comprehensive tuition<br />
• cannot receive institutional aid that exceeds the cost<br />
of comprehensive tuition<br />
Interested applicants should contact the Office of<br />
<strong>Undergraduate</strong> Admission to determine the exact criteria for<br />
scholarships and grants.<br />
Students applying for <strong>Immaculata</strong> scholarships/grants are<br />
required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student<br />
Aid (FAFSA) by the priority deadline of February 15.<br />
Scholarships and Grants<br />
<strong>Immaculata</strong> <strong>University</strong> Scholarships: Varying amounts awarded<br />
to incoming first-year and transfer students based on academic<br />
success, range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year.<br />
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships: awarded to Community College<br />
transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor<br />
Society; award adds $1000 additional scholarship to Transfer<br />
Scholarships.<br />
IU Opportunity Grants: awarded to first-time freshman<br />
and transfer students who complete the FAFSA and show need.<br />
Amounts vary.<br />
IHM Liaison Grants: awarded to freshman students who<br />
have been referred by a designated IHM liaison; awards up to<br />
$1000. Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation Scholarship: awarded to an<br />
accepted applicant who participated in the Pennsylvania HOBY<br />
Leadership Program.<br />
Modifications may be made to the <strong>Immaculata</strong>’s<br />
scholarship/grant program as part of an on-going process of review.<br />
Requirements to Renew Scholarships and Grants<br />
All recipients of <strong>Immaculata</strong> <strong>University</strong> Scholarships must<br />
maintain a 3.00 cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on a 4.00<br />
scale. All recipients of <strong>Immaculata</strong> <strong>University</strong> Grants and<br />
<strong>Immaculata</strong> <strong>University</strong> Opportunity Grants must maintain a 2.00<br />
cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on a 4.00 scale. Academic<br />
review for renewal of awards will take place at the end of first year<br />
and then after each semester for second, third and fourth years.<br />
Lost awards may be restored for the semester following the<br />
attainment of the required cumulative grade point average.<br />
Funded Academic Awards<br />
Through special funding, <strong>Immaculata</strong> annually awards a number of<br />
scholarships to students who meet the specific qualifications and have<br />
submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).<br />
Sister Marie Antoine Memorial Scholarship: established in 1985<br />
in memory of Sister Marie Antoine, IHM, college president 1972-<br />
82; awarded to an accepted student in the top tenth of her class with<br />
combined SAT scores of 1200 or above.<br />
Jane M. Feely Memorial Scholarship: established in 1987 in<br />
memory of Jane M. Feely, mother of alumna Jane F.<br />
Feely Guzikowski ’50; awarded to an accepted student based on<br />
academic achievement and demonstrated need.<br />
Monsignor M. M. Hassett Scholarship/Grant: established<br />
in 1941 at the request of Monsignor Hassett; open to graduates of<br />
Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School, Shamokin, PA.<br />
Kathy Burke Memorial Scholarship: established in 1982<br />
in memory of alumna Kathleen F. Burke ’79; awarded on the basis<br />
of academic achievement and geographic location.<br />
Sister Mary Consuela Scholarship: in honor of Sister<br />
Mary Consuela, IHM, professor of history, established in 1985; awarded<br />
to a qualified Hispanic-American female from the Delaware Valley.<br />
Teresa and Estelle Fagan Memorial Scholarship: established in<br />
1990 honoring Teresa Fagan ’39 and her mother; awarded on the<br />
basis of academic achievement and demonstrated need.<br />
Wall Memorial Scholarship: established in 1942 through<br />
the bequest of the Wall family; awarded on the basis of<br />
academic achievement.<br />
Anne and Timothy McCarthy Memorial Scholarship:<br />
established in 1986 in memory of employee Anne McCarthy and<br />
her husband; a book scholarship awarded on the basis of academic<br />
achievement and demonstrated need.<br />
Fred and Barbara Travaglini Scholarship: established in<br />
1991 by trustee Barbara Travaglini and her husband; awarded on the<br />
basis of academic achievement and demonstrated need.<br />
Class of 1939 Scholarship: established in 1989 as a<br />
50th anniversary gift; awarded on the basis of academic<br />
achievement and demonstrated need.<br />
Almira M. Doutt Memorial Scholarship: established in 1989<br />
in memory of the mother of Sister Kathleen C. Doutt, IHM,<br />
professor of music; awarded to a qualified music student with<br />
demonstrated need.<br />
Rocco N. and Sara J. Borrelli Scholarship: established in<br />
1990 in memory of the parents of Sister Barbara Miriam Borrelli,<br />
IHM, and Dr. Nicholas Borrelli; awarded to a junior or senior music<br />
major giving evidence of outstanding development in the area<br />
of performance.<br />
W. W. Smith Foundation Grants: available since 1978 through the<br />
generosity of the Trust, established by financier William Wikoff<br />
Smith; awarded to undergraduate students with demonstrated<br />
need to supplement federal, state, and college grants.<br />
Draper-Walsh Service Grant: established in 1996 by Mrs.<br />
Mimi Draper Walsh ’63; $7500 award given to a traditional student<br />
who has given service to her church, school, and/or community and<br />
who gives promise of continuing that service in her university years.<br />
Jada Gallagher Scholarship: established in memory of Jada<br />
S. Gallagher, a distinguished graduate of the Class of 1993, by<br />
her family and friends; this partial scholarship is awarded to a<br />
deserving sophomore, junior, or senior who has given evidence of<br />
outstanding talent in written communication. The recipient will<br />
have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Candidates<br />
should also submit a formal proposal that will include their longterm<br />
goals. The scholarship may be renewed, up to and including<br />
the senior year, provided the recipient continues to maintain<br />
academic excellence.<br />
TUITION REDUCTIONS<br />
Two or more members from the same family (economic unit)<br />
attending the College of <strong>Undergraduate</strong> Studies at <strong>Immaculata</strong> will<br />
each be given a 10% reduction in tuition. The total of <strong>Immaculata</strong><br />
aid may never exceed the amount of comprehensive tuition.<br />
FEDERAL AND STATE AID<br />
Application for all the programs listed below must be made by<br />
using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).<br />
FEDERAL PROGRAMS<br />
The federal government offers financial assistance<br />
programs, and <strong>Immaculata</strong> participates in all of the programs listed<br />
below. The general criteria for eligibility include enrollment in an<br />
eligible institution; status of citizen, national, or permanent resident<br />
of the U.S. or the Trust Territories of the Pacific Islands;<br />
and demonstration of financial need. Need is defined as the<br />
difference between educational costs—tuition, fees, room, board,<br />
books, supplies, and personal expenses—and the amount the student<br />
and the student’s family can be expected to pay for the education<br />
as determined by the federal need analysis formula.<br />
FEDERAL PELL GRANTS<br />
These grants are awarded directly by the federal government and<br />
range from $400 to $4,050, depending on need. Students must be<br />
undergraduate students who do not already hold a bachelor’s degree.<br />
