Decision-making and practices employed in free market,<br />

socialist, command, and transition economies. Emphasis is placed<br />

on the economic problems of the former Eastern European and<br />

Soviet systems, emerging markets, and newly industrialized<br />

countries. (Meets cross-cultural studies requirement)<br />

Study of the meaning, measures, issues, theories, and policies of<br />

economic development of the Third World.<br />

Allocation theory with emphasis on techniques and methods;<br />

Current topics which deal with on-going facets of finance.<br />

FIN 306 Money and Banking (3)<br />

Basic principles of money and banking in a credit economy;<br />

organization and structure of financial systems in the United States;<br />

recent developments in monetary and banking policy; proposals for<br />

financial reform. (Prerequisite: ECO 201 or 203)<br />

FIN 325 Investments (3)<br />

A study of the principles and guidelines for effective individual<br />

as well as institutional investment. This course covers stocks,<br />

bonds, derivative securities and mutual funds. The student will learn<br />

how to build and manage an investment portfolio and understand<br />

risk assessment. Simulated trading platform may be used to learn<br />

online trading. (Prerequisite: FIN 362)<br />

FIN 362 Introduction to Finance (3)<br />

Introduction to financial decision-making: institutions, markets,<br />

essential concepts, analysis, planning, strategies, and methods.<br />

(Prerequisites: ACC 203-204; MATH 203 or 207 may be taken<br />

A look at the global financial marketplace, focusing on the<br />

foreign exchange market and the balance of payments.<br />

An exploration of the field and competencies of financial planning<br />

services including development of personal financial plans, liquidity<br />

management, financing decisions, insurance, asset allocation,<br />

retirement planning, and estate planning. An application approach is<br />

taken with case studies and practical examples. (Prerequisite: FIN 362)<br />

FIN 368 Advanced Corporate Finance (3)<br />

An examination of corporate restructuring, equity and debt<br />

offerings, mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy, derivative securities<br />

such as options, futures and swaps, and other topics of current interest<br />

in the corporate finance area. The course will also examine case studies<br />

of prominent and news-worthy businesses and discuss corporate<br />

culture as it relates to financial performance. (Prerequisite: FIN 362)<br />

Marketing operations, functions, and institutions with particular<br />

emphasis on consumer goods. Basic considerations of consumer<br />

motivation and behavior; retailing and wholesaling; product<br />

planning; distribution; pricing policies; marketing research;<br />

advertising and sales promotion.<br />

MKT 331 Advertising Principles (3)<br />

Introduction to advertising management from the perspective of<br />

the product manager or agency account supervisor. Covers<br />

fundamentals of planning and budgeting for the advertising campaign,<br />

media strategy development, and basics of commercial design and<br />

production for print and broadcast. (Prerequisite: MKT 309)<br />

MKT 350 E-Marketing (3)<br />

The course examines the role of electronic resources<br />

(particularly the Internet) in contemporary marketing methods and<br />

strategies. Students will examine – using a combination of case<br />

studies, simulations, and hands on projects - the financial,<br />

technological, organizational, and ethical implications of marketing<br />

via this technology in both retail and business to business marketing<br />

ventures as well as compare and evaluate this form of<br />

marketing with more traditional marketing venues. (Prerequisite:<br />
