Students in <strong>Gallatin</strong> come from a wide range <strong>of</strong> undergraduatedisciplines. A strong academic background is expected, and specific undergraduatepreparation and/or pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience in the student’s field <strong>of</strong> interest is required. Studentswho enter the program with clear and focused goals benefit the most from its individualizedstructure.Candidates for admission are evaluated on the basis <strong>of</strong> their academic and pr<strong>of</strong>essionalbackground as well as on their potential to succeed in an individualized program <strong>of</strong> study<strong>of</strong> either a pr<strong>of</strong>essional, scholarly or creative nature.The <strong>School</strong> considers the candidate’s academicrecord, the Statement <strong>of</strong> Purpose, the applicant’s pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience (if relevant)and the letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation.Applicants may also submit any documentation ormaterials that they feel will allow the Admissions Committee to better understand theirrecords <strong>of</strong> accomplishment.In some cases, a personal interview may be required.The <strong>Gallatin</strong> <strong>School</strong> does not requirestandardized test scores such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), but applicantswho have taken such examinations may submit their scores.Applicants with international credentials and/or nonimmigrant visas should see page 106.See also Office for International Students and Scholars, page 131.LEARNING ABOUT GALLATINInformation Sessions. <strong>Gallatin</strong> regularly holds information sessions throughout the year.It is recommended that prospective applicants attend an information session to learn moreabout <strong>Gallatin</strong> and <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Prospective students and their families visiting <strong>New</strong><strong>York</strong> are invited to stay at the Club Quarters, a private hotel convenient to the <strong>University</strong>.Club Quarters Downtown, a 280-room, private, first-class business hotel, is located in theWall Street area <strong>of</strong> Manhattan. By special arrangement with NYU, it <strong>of</strong>fers moderatelypriced, quality accommodations for <strong>University</strong>-affiliated guests. Features include a customizedNYU floor and lounge decorated to highlight the <strong>University</strong>’s presence in <strong>New</strong><strong>York</strong>.
