NEW YORK UNIVERSITYGraduate Plan <strong>of</strong> Study<strong>Gallatin</strong> students use a special registration form called the Graduate Plan <strong>of</strong> Study.The purpose<strong>of</strong> this form is to encourage focused conversation between the student and the adviserabout a student’s progress and goals. In addition to recording their course selections, thisform helps students and their advisers calculate their degree progress, and it also asks studentsto describe their short- and long-term goals, their academic interests and areas <strong>of</strong> concentrationand their plan for completing the degree. Before the student is permitted to registereach semester, the student’s adviser must approve the Plan <strong>of</strong> Study.Cross-<strong>School</strong> Registration<strong>Gallatin</strong> students may take courses throughout the graduate programs <strong>of</strong> NYU and are requiredto meet the prerequisites <strong>of</strong> any courses they take in other schools <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.Students should note that certain departments and programs may restrict courses to majorsonly. For a listing <strong>of</strong> NYU programs available to <strong>Gallatin</strong> graduate students, please see theNYU Graduate Programs chart on pages 69-71. For information about taking courses outside<strong>of</strong> NYU, see External Study on page 93.Clearance at the <strong>Gallatin</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> Student ServicesTo be cleared for registration, each student must submit a Graduate Plan <strong>of</strong> Study form withall necessary approvals, including the adviser’s signature, at the <strong>Gallatin</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> StudentServices.The Office <strong>of</strong> Student Services will clear each student electronically to register.Studentsshould be advised that <strong>Gallatin</strong> will not clear a student for registration without the adviser’sapproval.AlbertStudents who have been cleared to register are expected to enroll in classes through NYU’sWeb-based registration and information system,Albert, via NYUHome. Students also useAlbert to gain access to their academic, personal and financial records. For more informationon the functions available on Albert, students may visit theWeb site <strong>of</strong> the Office <strong>of</strong> the<strong>University</strong> Registrar.Late RegistrationStudents who fail to meet registration deadlines will be charged late registration and paymentfees after the first week <strong>of</strong> classes, as published by the Office <strong>of</strong> the Bursar.To registerafter the second week <strong>of</strong> classes in the fall and spring terms, students must obtain writtenpermission from each <strong>of</strong> their instructors and must register in person at the <strong>Gallatin</strong> Office<strong>of</strong> Student Services.
