Particular attention should be given to (1) Typesof Financial Aid (scholarships, grants, loans) and (2) Applications and Forms; these topics arelocated on the navigation bar located on the home page.Applying for Financial Aid from NYUNewYork University requires students to submit only the FreeApplication for Federal StudentAid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. (The school code for NYU is 002785.) In addition, NewYorkState residents should complete the NewYork State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application;after completing the FAFSA, begin the online TAP application immediately using thelink on the FAFSA Confirmation Page or by using the quick link at the bottom of most pagesat www.hesc.com. To be assured of full consideration for all available support, graduate studentsmust apply for financial aid by the appropriate deadline.The most important deadlines are:November 1 Students beginning in spring semesterMarch 1 Students beginning in the fall semester or summer sessionsStudents requiring summer financial aid must submit a summer aid application in additionto the FAFSA and TAP application.Eligibility for Financial AidTo be considered for financial aid, students must be officially admitted to NYU or matriculatedin a degree program and making satisfactory academic progress toward degree requirements.Financial aid awards are not automatically renewed each year. Continuing studentsmust apply for financial aid each year, continue to demonstrate financial need, make satisfactoryprogress toward degree requirements and be in good academic standing. NEW YORK UNIVERSITYWithdrawalStudents receiving federal student aid who withdraw completely may be billed for remainingbalances resulting from the mandatory return of funds to the U.S. government. Theamount of federal aid “earned” up to that point is determined by the withdrawal date anda calculation based upon the federally prescribed formula. Generally, federal assistance isearned on a pro-rata basis.SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTSEligibility for merit-based and/or need-based scholarships at NYU is determined upon entranceto the University based on prior academic strengths and, if you apply for financial aid,your demonstrated financial need.University Sponsored and University Administered ProgramsThrough the generosity of its alumni and other concerned citizens, as well as from funds suppliedby the federal government, the University is able to provide an extensive financial aidprogram for its students. Awards are competitive and are based on a combination of academicachievement, applicable test scores, and, in most cases, financial need. No separate applicationis necessary.Federal Scholarships and GrantsEligibility is based on submission of the FAFSA, and no separate application is necessary.State GrantsNewYork State offers a wide variety of grants and scholarships to residents, subject to theannual availability of funds.Application is made directly to the state and grants are awardedby the state. NewYork State programs are listed at www.hesc.com.Some students from outside NewYork State may qualify for funds from their own statescholarship programs that can be used at NewYork University. Contact your state financialaid agency (call 1-800-433-3243 to obtain contact information) to ask about program requirementsand application procedures.When you receive an eligibility notice from yourstate program, you should submit it immediately to the NYU Office of Financial Aid.Scholarships and Grants from Other OrganizationsStudents may be eligible for a private scholarship or grant from an outside agency. Somesources to explore are employers, unions, professional organizations and community andspecial interest groups.A number of extensive scholarship search resources are available freeonline, and several are featured at www.nyu.edu/financial.aid.
