He has received research fellowshipsfrom the Fulbright Program, the Dibner Institute and the Max Planck Institute for theHistory <strong>of</strong> Science, and been a visiting scholar at Columbia <strong>University</strong> and <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>Oslo. He is the author <strong>of</strong> From Bauhaus to Ecohouse:A History <strong>of</strong> Ecological Design (LouisianaState <strong>University</strong> Press, 2010), which explores the intersection <strong>of</strong> architecture and ecologicalscience, and Imperial Ecology: Environmental Order <strong>of</strong> the British Empire, 1895-1945 (Harvard<strong>University</strong> Press, 2001), which investigates how the promising new science <strong>of</strong> ecology flourishedin the British Empire. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Anker’s current book project explores the history <strong>of</strong>ecological debates in his country <strong>of</strong> birth, Norway. His scholarly works include The Poetics <strong>of</strong> the Obscene: Ibnal-Hajjaj and Sukhf (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2013) and numerous essays on the poetry <strong>of</strong> MahmoudDarwish, Sargon Boulus and on contemporary Iraqi culture. His essays and creativewritings in Arabic have appeared in major journals and publications in the Arab world and in<strong>New</strong><strong>York</strong> Times,Aljazeera.net,The Nation, Middle East Report, Journal <strong>of</strong> Palestine Studies, Journal<strong>of</strong> Arabic Literature,The Massachusetts Review,World LiteratureToday, Ploughshares, and WashingtonSquare Journal. He has published two collections <strong>of</strong> poetry in Arabic and one collection inEnglish: The Baghdad Blues (Harbor Mountain Press, 2007). He has published three novels:I`jaam:An Iraqi Rhapsody (City Lights,2007) which has appeared in German,Portuguese,Norwegianand Italian editions; The Pomegranate Alone (2010), forthcoming fromYale <strong>University</strong>Press in 2013;and Ya Maryam (Beirut:Dar al-Jamal,2012).His translations from the Arabic includeMahmoud Darwish’s In the Presence <strong>of</strong> Absence (Archipelago, 2011) and a selection <strong>of</strong>Iraqi poet SaadiYoussef’s work, Nostalgia;My Enemy (Graywolf,2012).
