GALLATIN SCHOOL OF INDIVIDUALIZED STUDY<strong>Gallatin</strong> ScholarshipsSponsored and administered by <strong>New</strong><strong>York</strong> <strong>University</strong>, these scholarships are awarded to studentson the basis <strong>of</strong> financial need and academic achievement.To apply, students should answer“Yes” to the question “Do you wish to be considered for financial assistance?” in theApplication for Admission and submit the FAFSA.• Dean’s Scholarships are small tuition awards given to any enrolled <strong>Gallatin</strong> studentwho has a 3.0 GPA or better, no incomplete grades on his or her record and has filed a currentFAFSA that shows need.Awards are granted as funding remains available.To apply fora Dean’s Scholarship, new and continuing graduate students should complete the <strong>Gallatin</strong>Application for Supplemental Scholarship Aid (available on the <strong>Gallatin</strong> Web site).Other Financial Resources for <strong>Gallatin</strong> Graduate Students• The Herbert Rubin Creative Writing Award is awarded by the <strong>Gallatin</strong> <strong>School</strong> eachyear to one or two students for outstanding creative writing and artwork. Applicants maysubmit poems, essays, stories, a short play or artwork to The <strong>Gallatin</strong> Review; the deadline forsubmissions is announced during the fall semester.A committee comprising faculty and studentsjudges the submissions, and the winners are announced during the spring semester.The winning works are published in The <strong>Gallatin</strong> Review, and the winners receive a stipend,usually <strong>of</strong> several hundred dollars.• The Mike Bender Award is a stipend <strong>of</strong> approximately $500, given each year to a studenton the basis <strong>of</strong> an internship that promotes the ideals <strong>of</strong> compassion, understanding andtolerance. Proposals must be submitted to the director <strong>of</strong> external programs at the <strong>Gallatin</strong><strong>School</strong> no later than October 1.• The Dean’s Graduate Thesis Support Fund was created to help support the costsassociated with the development <strong>of</strong> a non-performance-based thesis. Applicants must becurrent MA students in the <strong>Gallatin</strong> <strong>School</strong>, with an approved thesis topic. For more informationand application procedures, see the <strong>Gallatin</strong> Web site.• The Siff Performance Thesis Grants are made to graduate students working on orpresenting an artistic thesis to cover some <strong>of</strong> the expenses <strong>of</strong> the performance. For more informationand application procedures, see the <strong>Gallatin</strong> Web site.• The Dean’s Conference Fund provides support for any enrolled student at <strong>Gallatin</strong>(undergraduate or graduate) to attend or present at a pr<strong>of</strong>essional conference. Awards aremade on a reimbursement basis.
