AdmissionGALLATIN SCHOOL OF INDIVIDUALIZED STUDYOffice of GraduateAdmissionsGallatin School ofIndividualized StudyNewYork University1 Washington PlaceNewYork, NY 10003-6806212-998-7370Admission to the graduate program of the Gallatin School is open to qualified applicantswho hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited undergraduate institution or the equivalentinternational credentials. Students in Gallatin come from a wide range of undergraduatedisciplines. A strong academic background is expected, and specific undergraduatepreparation and/or professional experience in the student’s field of interest is required. Studentswho enter the program with clear and focused goals benefit the most from its individualizedstructure.Candidates for admission are evaluated on the basis of their academic and professionalbackground as well as on their potential to succeed in an individualized program of studyof either a professional, scholarly or creative nature.The School considers the candidate’s academicrecord, the Statement of Purpose, the applicant’s professional experience (if relevant)and the letters of recommendation.Applicants may also submit any documentation ormaterials that they feel will allow the Admissions Committee to better understand theirrecords of accomplishment.In some cases, a personal interview may be required.The Gallatin School does not requirestandardized test scores such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), but applicantswho have taken such examinations may submit their scores.Applicants with international credentials and/or nonimmigrant visas should see page 106.See also Office for International Students and Scholars, page 131.LEARNING ABOUT GALLATINInformation Sessions. Gallatin regularly holds information sessions throughout the year.It is recommended that prospective applicants attend an information session to learn moreabout Gallatin and New York University. Prospective students and their families visiting NewYork are invited to stay at the Club Quarters, a private hotel convenient to the University.Club Quarters Downtown, a 280-room, private, first-class business hotel, is located in theWall Street area of Manhattan. By special arrangement with NYU, it offers moderatelypriced, quality accommodations for University-affiliated guests. Features include a customizedNYU floor and lounge decorated to highlight the University’s presence in NewYork. Rates are well below those for comparable accommodations in Manhattan.
