GALLATIN SCHOOL OF INDIVIDUALIZED STUDYStudent Club RoomThe Club Room is a resource for all Gallatin School club leaders and members of the GallatinStudent Council to assist them in the administration of their clubs and activities.TheClub Room is equipped with computers, a telephone line, club mailboxes, bulletin boards,file cabinets and a work area. Formore information, contact Faith Stangler, director of external programs, 212-998-7376,faith.stangler@nyu.edu.Community Learning InitiativeGallatin’s Community Learning Initiative (CLI) bridges the gap between the classroom andthe outside world by creating partnerships with community-based organizations, groupsand individuals—as well as other NYU programs—in addressing real-world problems anddevising and implementing practical solutions. For many CLI courses, students engage ingroup community projects as part of their course work and receive academic credit bothfor their engagement and reflection on the work.The Literacy ProjectThe Gallatin Writing Program’s Literacy Project, through a Literacy in Action course(cosponsored by Gallatin’s Community Learning Initiative), educates and supervises studentvolunteers who tutor adults in reading and writing at five partner sites.The LiteracyProject also sponsors a weekly writing class at one of the sites; publishes The LiteracyReview, an annual journal of the best writing from programs in adult literacy and Englishfor Speakers of Other Languages throughout NewYork City; and sponsors the annual daylongLiteracy Review Workshops in Teaching Writing to Adult Basic Education, GED andESOL Students.
