Each student must request that his or her scoreon this examination be sent to the Office of Graduate Admissions, Gallatin School of IndividualizedStudy, NewYork University, code 2569.Advanced Standing Transfer ApplicantsGallatin welcomes applicants who have done some work in another graduate program, eitherwithin NYU or at another institution.A maximum of 12 units (combined with courseequivalency credit) may transfer. Courses must have been taken at the graduate level and beequivalent to those offered by the graduate divisions of New York University, consistentwith the student’s program of study in the Gallatin School, completed with a grade of B orbetter, not applied to another degree and earned in the classroom at an institution of establishedacademic reputation.University policy dictates that units over 10 years old are not transferable. Students withadvanced standing who wish to transfer credit toward their degree in the Gallatin Schoolmust complete the Request for Transfer Credit form, which can be found on the GallatinWeb site, within the first year of matriculation.Graduate Course CreditFor graduates of Gallatin’s B.A. program, 6 units earned in graduate-level courses may be appliedtoward the Gallatin School M.A. program as transfer credit, providing that the unitsearned are in excess of those used to meet the requirements for the undergraduate degree.Students must request that their course work be reserved for graduate credit at the timethey register for their courses as a Gallatin undergraduate.The transfer of credit is not automatic,and all courses must adhere to the transfer credit policies of the M.A. program (seeabove). Graduate students will receive credit only for graduate-level courses. No undergraduatecourses may be applied for credit toward the M.A. degree.NewYork University Bulletin 2012-2013 107
NEW YORK UNIVERSITYOrientationAll entering Gallatin students are required to attend a Gallatin orientation session prior tomeeting with an adviser and proceeding with registration. Invitations to orientation, withdetails of times and locations, are sent soon after students have been admitted.Gallatin M.A. student orientations are scheduled before the start of each semester, startingin late April for fall enrollment and in December for spring enrollment. Orientation toNewYork University and to NewYork City takes place during all-University orientation,scheduled for the week before the start of the fall semester. For further details about all-Universityorientation, consult http://www.nyu.edu/life/events-traditions/welcome-week.html.ReadmissionStudents are required to maintain continuous enrollment in Gallatin by registering for classesor by maintaining matriculation by fee; if they do not register during a semester, they arewithdrawn from the University and must apply for readmission by completing the GraduateApplication for Readmission. Readmission is not guaranteed.To obtain the Applicationfor Readmission, students should visit the Gallatin Web site.
