He isalso working on a book manuscript,tentatively titled“The Emperor is Dead:Trauma and CulturalChange during the Carolingian Time <strong>of</strong> Troubles,” which explores the mid-ninth centurycivil war between the grandsons <strong>of</strong> Charlemagne.George ShulmanPr<strong>of</strong>essorB.A. 1973,Amherst College; Ph.D. 1982, California (Berkeley)George Shulman’s interests lie in the fields <strong>of</strong> political thought and American studies. Heteaches and writes on political thought in Europe and the United States, as well as on Greekand Hebrew—or tragic and biblical—traditions. His teaching and writing emphasize the role<strong>of</strong> narrative in culture and politics. He is the author <strong>of</strong> Radicalism and Reverence: GerrardWinstanleyand the English Revolution (<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> California Press,1989) and American Prophecy:Race and Redemption in American Political Culture (<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Minnesota Press, 2008).
