GALLATIN SCHOOL OF INDIVIDUALIZED STUDYprovide a makeup examination for the student or require other work as a substitute. If themakeup examination cannot be completed by the end <strong>of</strong> the semester, the instructor maygive a grade <strong>of</strong> incomplete. Incompletes are not awarded automatically.VII. EXTERNAL STUDYA graduate student in academic good standing may be permitted to take credit-bearing graduate-levelcourses at an institution other than NYU if the courses fit logically into his or her program.All such course work must be approved in advance by both the student’s primary adviserand the <strong>Gallatin</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> Global Programs.VIII. MAINTAINING MATRICULATIONAll students are required to be registered in every fall and spring semester from the time <strong>of</strong>admission until the degree is completed and the diploma is posted. If a student does not registerfor classes in a fall or spring term (provided the student has not yet registered for Master’sThesis and Defense; please see below for information about the registration procedurefollowing enrollment for Master’s Thesis and Defense when the thesis is not completed),then the student must register to maintain matriculation.This registration status allows studentsto maintain their eligibility to register for the following semester without applying forreadmission. Graduate students may maintain matriculation for a maximum <strong>of</strong> two semesters.Maintaining matriculation carries a fee <strong>of</strong> $75 per semester, plus a nonrefundable registrationand services fee.
