Chapter 4 Remote Interface ReferenceRS-232 Interface ConfigurationRS-232 Interface ConfigurationSee also “Remote Interface Configuration,” on page 114 in chapter 3.You connect the function generator to the RS-232 interface using the9-pin (DB-9) serial connector on the rear panel. The function generatoris configured as a DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) device. For allcommunications over the RS-232 interface, the function generatoruses two handshake lines: DTR (Data Terminal Ready) on pin 4 andDSR (Data Set Ready) on pin 6.The following sections contain information to help you use the functiongenerator over the RS-232 interface. The programming commands forRS-232 are listed on page 200.RS-232 Configuration OverviewConfigure the RS-232 interface using the parameters shown below.Use the front-panel I/O MENU to select the baud rate, parity, andnumber of data bits (see also pages 219 and 220 for more information).4œ Baud Rate: 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, or 9600 baud (factory setting)œ Parity and Data Bits: None / 8 data bits (factory setting)Even / 7 data bits, orOdd / 7 data bitsœ Number of Start Bits: 1 bit (fixed)œ Number of Stop Bits:2 bits (fixed)To download binary data for arbitrary waveforms over the RS-232interface, you must select 8 data bits with no parity.195
