Chapter 3 Features and FunctionsFrequency Modulation (FM)Peak Frequency DeviationThe peak frequency deviation represents the variation in frequency ofthe modulating waveform from the carrier frequency.œ Peak frequency deviation: 10 mHz to 7.5 MHz. The default is 100 Hz.œ The carrier frequency must always be greater than or equal to thepeak frequency deviation. If you attempt to set the deviation to avalue greater than the carrier frequency (with FM enabled), thefunction generator will automatically adjust the deviation to equalthe present carrier frequency. From the front panel, “MAX VALUE” is displayed and the deviation isadjusted. From the remote interface, a -221, “Settings conflict” error isgenerated and the deviation is adjusted.œ The sum of the carrier frequency and peak frequency deviation mustbe less than or equal to the maximum frequency for the selectedfunction plus 100 kHz (15.1 MHz for sine and square, 200 kHz fortriangle and ramp, and 5.1 MHz for arbitrary waveforms). If youattempt to set the deviation to a value that is not valid, the functiongenerator will automatically adjust the deviation to the maximumvalue allowed with the present carrier frequency. From the front panel, “MAX VALUE” is displayed and the deviation isadjusted. From the remote interface, a -221, “Settings conflict” error isgenerated and the deviation is adjusted.œ Front-Panel Operation: Press Shift Level to set the peak deviation(the value is displayed for approximately 10 seconds). Before setting the deviation from the front panel, you must haveFM enabled. If you attempt to set the deviation when FM is notenabled, “SELECT AM, FM” is displayed.œ Remote Interface Operation:FM:DEViation {|MINimum|MAXimum}80
