Chapter 3 Features and FunctionsFrequency Modulation (FM)Frequency Modulation (FM)A modulated waveform consists of a carrier waveform and a modulatingwaveform. In FM, the frequency of the carrier is varied by the frequencyof the modulating waveform. The function generator will accept only aninternal FM modulating signal (no external source is available). For more information on the fundamentals of Frequency Modulation, refer to chapter 7, “Tutorial”.To Select FM Modulationœ The FM annunciator turns on when FM is enabled.œ Only one modulation mode can be enabled at a time. When youenable FM, the previous modulation mode is turned off.œ Front-Panel Operation: Enable FM before setting up the othermodulation parameters. Press Shift FM to output an FM waveformusing the present settings for the carrier frequency, modulatingfrequency, output amplitude, and offset voltage.œ Remote Interface Operation: To ensure proper operation, you shouldenable FM after you have set up the other modulation parameters.FM:STATe {OFF|ON}76
