THE FIELD SURVEY<br />

What Do You Need for a Field Survey<br />

• Fully charged <strong>ECOPROBE</strong> 5.<br />

INTRODUCTION<br />

Mapping a contaminant plume in soil is the most common application of <strong>ECOPROBE</strong> 5 (Figs.1 and 2). An<br />

experienced operator is capable of boring holes and carrying out the measurement without additional<br />

assistance. In difficult soil conditions, or if a rapid sample rate is required, an assistant can help with boring<br />

holes and cleaning probes.<br />

It is strongly recommended to charge the instrument’s batteries overnight<br />

before a day’s investigation.<br />

• Sampling probe.<br />

• GPS antenna for GPS logging.<br />

• Spare dust filte<strong>rs</strong> and tubing.<br />

• Iron brace and hammer or drill for making holes.<br />

• A measuring tape to establish a grid for standard logging.<br />

• Pumping device for cleaning the sampling probe (such as that used for<br />

inflating rubber mattresses).<br />

• Connecting cable between the temperature sampling probe and the<br />

instrument – if the soil temperature is required.<br />

• Battery charger.<br />

• Connector splitter for simultaneous connection of the temperature<br />

sampling probe and GPS antenna, if needed (optional item).<br />

Take care to avoid any liquid from seeping directly into the instrument's sampling<br />

aperture! This will cause serious damage to the analytical units and it will invalidate<br />

the warranty.<br />
