Railway Station 14. 6. 2000
CASE STUDY 3 (Fig. 28)
PID measurements made at the
railway station shows the largest
hydrocarbon contamination from 40 to
95 m along all profiles. Several small
contaminated domains in the
surveyed area, are confirmed by the
IR TP analyzer (see the third graph)
Methane channel shows relatively
high concentrations of methane,
which is characteristic of old
contamination where bacterial activity
has already started.
At the position of the main
contamination, the TP channel shows
higher values than the methane
channel. This indicates the presence
of hydrocarbon contamination. There
is also an indication on the TP
channel at 100 –110 m on the profiles
95 and 100, of fresh hydrocarbon
contamination. No methane is
present.
Bacterial activity is expressed by high
concentrations of CO2 at the position
of the main contaminated area
(compare also with the PID channel).
