Turn it off and wait 5 minutes for theoil to return to the oil pan.Check the oil level and fill to the F mark ifnecessary.Oil capacity (General reference only,refer to Specifications section forcapacities.)NOTE2. Warm up the engine for a few minutesand turn it off. Remove the oil-fillercap.3. Remove the drain plug and drain the oilinto a suitable container.4. Replace the plug tightly after the oilhas thoroughly drained.5. Fill the engine with new oil to the Fmark on the dipstick.6. Securely replace the oil-filler cap.LoosenTighten• The indicated engine oil capacitiesare for general reference purposesonly. When adding or changing oil,verify the engine oil level with theoil dipstick.• Use only specified engine oil (page10-5).• Verify that the engine cover issecurely installed.Changing oil filterBecause you need a special tool toretighten the filter, an Authorized <strong>Mazda</strong>Dealer should do the work.FrontDrain Plug7. If theengine has been running, parts of theengine compartment can become veryhot. You could be burned. Carefullyinspect the engine coolant in thecoolant reservoir, but do not open it.Do not use a match or live flame inthe engine compartment. DO NOTADD COOLANT WHEN THEENGINE IS HOT.Inspect the antifreeze protection andcoolant level in the coolant reservoir atleast once a year—at the beginning of thewinter season—and before travelingwhere temperatures may drop belowfreezing.Inspect the condition and connections ofall cooling system and heater hoses.Replace any that are swollen ordeteriorated.The coolant should be at full in theradiator and between the F and L markson the coolant reservoir when the engineis cool.If it’s at or near L, add enough coolant tothe coolant reservoir to provide freezingand corrosion protection and to bring thelevel to F.CAUTIONRadiator coolant will damage paint.Rinse it off quickly.Do not overfill.If new coolant is required frequently,consult an Authorized <strong>Mazda</strong> Dealer.8-12Form No. 8R65-EA-03C
