If the vehicle is equippedwith side and curtain air bags, theimpact of inflation could causeserious injury or death to the person.Children are more likely to sleep inthe vehicle; when they do, they aremore at risk in the front passenger’sseat that have a side air bag becausethey may slump over into the path ofthe air bags.Furthermore, leaningover or against the doors could blockthe side and curtain air bags andeliminate the advantages ofsupplemental protection.With thefront air bag and the additional sideair bag that comes out of the frontseat, the rear seat is always a betterlocation for children who are prone tosleeping. Do not allow a child to leanover or against the doors, even if thechild is seated in a child-restraintsystem.▼ Front Passenger’s Seat Child-Restraint System Installation1. Slide the seat as far back as possible.2. Secure the child-restraint system withthe lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt.See the instructions on the childrestraintsystem for belt routinginstructions.3. To get the retractor into the automaticlocking mode, pull the shoulder beltportion of the seat belt until the entirelength of the belt is out of the retractor.4. Push the child-restraint system firmlyinto the vehicle seat. Be sure the beltretracts as snugly as possible. Clickingfrom the retractor will be heard duringretraction if the system is in automaticlocking mode. If the belt does not lockthe seat down tight, repeat this step.2-23Form No. 8R65-EA-03C

When you removethe child-restraint system, be surethe belt fully retracts to return thesystem to emergency locking modebefore occupants use the seat belts.• Follow the child-restraint systemmanufacturer’s instruction carefully.Depending on the type of childrestraintsystem, it may not employseat belts which are in automaticlocking mode.2-24Form No. 8R65-EA-03C
