Environment <strong>and</strong>Progressive RestorationRestorationEnvironmental BondThe side drains along the approach road are all blocked.Mine channeling to drain off surface water from thequarry/mine was not in existence.The major restoration works carried out by the managementwere the construction of three check dams.The management has deposited Nu. 800,000.00 on anannual basis as an environmental restoration bond. Themanagement has deposited Nu. 2,400,000.00 so far <strong>and</strong>shall be depositing another installment of Nu. 800,000.00 byAugust 2009.7. Others The quarry has provided employment to 17 people out ofwhich 12 are muster roll workers <strong>and</strong> 5 are regularemployees of CDCL.The management does not have the practice of sprayingwater in the quarry <strong>and</strong> the approach road.The management has already planned <strong>for</strong> three more checkdams to be constructed at the waste dump.1.40 RecommendationThe management should ensure that the quarry is operated strictly as per the FMFS report,EMP <strong>and</strong> environmental clearance at all times.There is a need to expedite the development of proper benches at the quarry using adequatenumber of equipment failing which the business sustainability will be in question.The management should ensure to spray water at the quarry <strong>and</strong> the approach road tosuppress dusts.Visual impact must be minimized.Provide toilet <strong>and</strong> drinking water supply at the quarry.Restore the environmental destructions caused by the construction of approach roadwherever quarrying is not to be done. This in turn would also reduce the visual impact ofthe area.103
