Tepals usually 2.2–2.8 (–3.3) mm long. Anthers (0.4–) 0.5–0.6 (–0.7) mm, ±equalling filaments; filaments c. 0.4–0.5 mm long. Capsule segments usually 1.6–2.3 × 1.0–1.2 mm. Some plants from Greenland are exceedingly robust (described as L. obtusata Steud.); the aberrant variation probably depends on edaphic conditions. Plants from W USA and SW Canada require further study; <strong>to</strong>wards the south, the western plants show a tendency <strong>to</strong> broader leaves, longer tepals and broader seeds. The stamen and seed characters, however, are within the subsp. spicata limits.
