Once all removed <strong>asbestos</strong> cement products, associated debris, used rags andwaste have been placed <strong>in</strong> waste conta<strong>in</strong>ers and all tools have been cleaned,beg<strong>in</strong> the personal decontam<strong>in</strong>ation process.23. Carry out personal decontam<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>in</strong> a designated area away from the ma<strong>in</strong>removal area and near the boundary of the barricaded area. The method ofpersonal decontam<strong>in</strong>ation may vary.a. The follow<strong>in</strong>g is appropriate where the area to be removed is no morethan the size of an average domestic house:• Clean the disposable coveralls and respirator while still wear<strong>in</strong>g them.Coveralls can be cleaned us<strong>in</strong>g a HEPA vacuum, damp rag or f<strong>in</strong>e waterspray and the respirator can be cleaned with a damp rag or cloth.• While still wear<strong>in</strong>g the respirator, remove coveralls, turn<strong>in</strong>g them <strong>in</strong>side-outto entrap any rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g contam<strong>in</strong>ation and then place them <strong>in</strong>to an<strong>asbestos</strong> waste bag.• Remove the respirator. If a non-disposable respirator was used, <strong>in</strong>spect itto ensure it is free from contam<strong>in</strong>ation, clean it with a wet rag if necessary,then store <strong>in</strong> a conta<strong>in</strong>er. Disposable respirators do not require clean<strong>in</strong>g.They need to be placed <strong>in</strong>to an <strong>asbestos</strong> waste bag or waste conta<strong>in</strong>erdedicated for <strong>asbestos</strong> waste.b. Where the area to be removed is greater than the size of an averagedomestic house or where considerable dust will be generated,use of a full decontam<strong>in</strong>ation unit would be appropriate.24. Ensure all waste bags are goose-necked, the exterior cleaned then doublebagged and all waste conta<strong>in</strong>ers are sealed.25. Place all waste conta<strong>in</strong>ers <strong>in</strong> a secure storage facility or transport vehiclefor disposal.26. Perform a visual clearance to ensure that there is no visible <strong>asbestos</strong> residue.For removal over 10 square metres, a clearance certificate from an <strong>in</strong>dependentperson is required.27. Transport the waste <strong>in</strong> accordance with EPA <strong>Victoria</strong> requirements.28.
