AppendicesEmployers, self-employed persons and persons with management or control of aworkplace who have commissioned the analysis of atmospheric monitor<strong>in</strong>g samplesfor <strong>asbestos</strong> must ensure that the person who undertakes the analysis is anapproved analyst and can issue endorsed reports under the authority of theaccredited laboratory. Endorsed reports have the NATA <strong>in</strong>signia stamped on thereport. It is recommended that a copy of the endorsed analysis report be obta<strong>in</strong>edas evidence of compliance.Prior to engag<strong>in</strong>g an analyst, request verification from the laboratory where theanalysis is to be done confirm<strong>in</strong>g the analyst is NATA approved. The websitenata.asn.au can also be used to confirm that the laboratory is accredited toperform <strong>asbestos</strong> analysis.What actions are required after atmospheric monitor<strong>in</strong>g?If atmospheric monitor<strong>in</strong>g results <strong>in</strong>dicate that control measures have deterioratedor are not effective, prompt action must be taken to reduce employee exposure toairborne <strong>asbestos</strong>. Control measures need to be restored or improved as soon aspossible. This may <strong>in</strong>volve ceas<strong>in</strong>g work while normal control measures are restoredto the required level of effectiveness, provid<strong>in</strong>g portable or temporary ventilation,adopt<strong>in</strong>g modified work practices or provid<strong>in</strong>g personal protective equipment.Results of atmospheric monitor<strong>in</strong>g to be availableCopies of the results of atmospheric monitor<strong>in</strong>g must be accessible to the HSR ofany affected designated workgroup and to affected employees.
