General requirements for all <strong>asbestos</strong> removal224. Emergency plann<strong>in</strong>g needs to <strong>in</strong>clude:• provisions for emergency and fire evacuation, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g exit arrangements that areadequate for the risks <strong>in</strong>volved• emergency communications such as audible alarms (these alarms needto be used for emergencies only)• barriers and signs or other warn<strong>in</strong>g devices that can be used to communicateemergency arrangements.225. A first aid kit and first aid officer need to be readily available at all times.A sufficient number of suitable fire ext<strong>in</strong>guishers and hoses also need tobe available at strategic locations. The locations of fire ext<strong>in</strong>guishers andhoses need to be displayed <strong>in</strong> written and/or graphic format and conveyedto all employees and relevant persons.Summary of duties226. Table 2 below identifies the duties required to be met by licensed <strong>asbestos</strong>removalists and by persons permitted to carry out limited removal work withouta licence. These requirements relate to the removal of <strong>asbestos</strong> that is fixed or<strong>in</strong>stalled <strong>in</strong> a build<strong>in</strong>g, structure, ship or plant so that it is no longer fixed or <strong>in</strong>stalledup to the po<strong>in</strong>t of conta<strong>in</strong>ment.
