<strong>SAFA</strong> <strong>Ramp</strong> <strong>Inspections</strong>Guidance materialSelect the checklist items to focus on taking into account the General instructions inparagraph 3.1h;There should be co-operation with security, ground and all other officials involved inairport activities, to enable the <strong>SAFA</strong> team to reach the aircraft to be inspected (seeNote 2);For planning purposes, EUROCONTROL has a special module in which you will be ableto find relevant flight information concerning any targeted operators. The applicationform to request access to the CFMU system can be found on their website 2 .Note 1: In general, the operators issue operating schedules twice per year. However, theremight be “last minute changes” to these; therefore, <strong>SAFA</strong> team members should ensure theyhave the latest update of the schedule. A valuable source can be the internet; most airportshave a website displaying information on arrival and departure times of scheduled flights.Schedule information on special flights such as cargo, unscheduled or private flights, may needto be specifically requested from the airport.Note 2: Where officials from different organisations (i.e. customs, security, DG inspectorate)have to work in co-operation during the inspection, a procedure on cooperation may need tobe developed at a National level. There is no standardised method as most Member Stateshave different airport procedures for <strong>SAFA</strong> inspectors.3.3 <strong>SAFA</strong> inspection itemsThe <strong>SAFA</strong> <strong>Ramp</strong> Inspection checklist (mentioned in Annex II to Commission Directive2008/49/EC) contains a total of 54 items. Of these checklist items, 24 relate to operationalrequirements (A-items) to be checked on the flight deck, 14 items address safety and cabinitems (B-items), 12 items are concerning the aircraft condition (C-items) and 3 items (Ditems)are related to the inspection of cargo and the cargo compartment. In case of anyfindings not related to the other items of the checklist, they may be administered by the E-item (General) of the checklist.The inspection findings and subsequent categorisation have to be reported on the <strong>SAFA</strong><strong>Ramp</strong> Inspection Report after completion of the inspection, even if there are no findingsraised. The instructions on the completion of the <strong>Ramp</strong> Inspection Report can be found inAppendix 2.Depending on the time available for the <strong>SAFA</strong> <strong>Ramp</strong> Inspection not all items but a limitednumber of items may be checked (see General instructions in 3.1 h).Depending on the items to be inspected, a <strong>SAFA</strong> <strong>Ramp</strong> Inspection may be performed onlanding or on departure of the aircraft.
