Lighting and Ventilations of Rooms.- (1) Rooms shall have for the admissionof light and air, one or more opening, such as windows and ventilators, openingdirectly to the external air or into an open verandah with a maximum width of 2.4meters.(2) Where the light and ventilation requirements are not met through day lightingand natural ventilation, the same shall be ensured through artificial lighting andmechanical ventilation as per PART-VIII- Building Services Section 1. Lighting andVentilation of the Code as revised from time to time.(3) Notwithstanding the area of openings obtained under sub-rue (2), the minimumaggregate area (see Notes 1 to 3) of such openings excluding doors inclusive offrames shall not be less than one-tenth of the floor area.Note 1.- If a window is partly fixed, the open able area shall be counted.Note 2.- No portion of a room shall be assumed to be lighted, if it is more than 7.5meters away from the opening assumed for lighting that portion.Note 3.- Area of openings as given in this sub-rule shall be increased by 25 percent incase of a kitchen.(vi) Lift* 80. Provision of Lifts.- Provision for lifts shall be made for building more than12.5 meters in height. Planning and designing of lifts shall be done in accordance withthe provision given in Part-VIII Building Services Section 5. Installation of liftsand Escalators, of the Code as revised from time to time.(vii) Parking Space**81. Parking Space.- The off-street parking spaces and other than off streetparking spaces given in the Appendix L. and L-A. respectively shall be considered bythe Authority in conjunction with any other law for the time being in force relating tothe development of land.(viii) Exits82. Exit Requirements.- (1) General.- The following general requirements apply toexits :–(a) every building meant for human occupancy shall be provided with exitssufficient to permit safe escape of occupants in case of fire or otheremergency:* Substituted** Notification No. F-23 (107)-95-XXXII, dt. 7-4-2000 Gazette dt. 28-4-2000.76
