Hazardous 25 40(iv)(v)Number of staircases - For all other building excepting single and multifamilydwellings below 15 meters in height, there shall be a minimum oftwo stairways and one of them shall be an enclosed stairway and theother shall be on the external wall of building and shall open directly tothe exterior, interior open space or to any open place of safety.Minimum width for stairways - Notwithstanding the detailed provision forexists as per clause (i) to (iii) above the provisions of sub-rule (2) of rule77 will govern the width of stairways.(4) Other requirements of individual exits - The detailed requirements ofindividual exits are given in clauses (I) to (IX) below :–(I) Doorways - (a) Every exits doorway shall open into an enclosed stairway, ahorizontal exit, or a corridor or passage way providing continuous andprotected means of egress.(b) No exit doorway shall be less than 100 centimeters in width. Doorwayshall be not less than 200 centimeters in height. Doorways for bathrooms watercloset or store shall not be less than 75 centimeters.(c) Exit doorways shall, as far as possible, open outwards, that is, awayfrom the room but shall not obstruct the travel along any exit. No door, whenopened, shall reduce the required width of stairway or landing to less than90centimeters overhead or sliding doors shall not be installed.(d) Exit door shall not open immediately upon a flight of stairs, a landingequal to at least the width of the door shall be provided in the stairway at eachdoorway, level of landing shall be the same as that of the floor which it serves.79
