Table 8.9shows that paraffin was the main source <strong>of</strong> fuel for lighting. It was used both in theparaffin candles commonly known as tadooba 8* (76 percent) and lantern (11 percent).Use <strong>of</strong> electricity as the main source for lighting was reported by only eight (8) percent<strong>of</strong> all households. The table further shows that 39 percent <strong>of</strong> the urban householdsused electricity for lighting compared to only 3 percent in the rural areas. The currentlevels are well below the PEAP target <strong>of</strong> increasing access to electricity among ruralhouseholds to 10 percent through the implementation <strong>of</strong> the Rural ElectrificationStrategy.* A Tadooba is a local open paraffin lamp with a wick90
