Out <strong>of</strong>the 11.2 million persons <strong>of</strong> the school going age, only two thirds were enrolled inschool, compared to The PEAP target for primary NER <strong>of</strong> 100 percent for either sexby the year 2013. The percentage enrolled was higher for males at 70 percentcompared to females at 62 percent. The net primary school enrollment rate was 86percent with no differences between sexes. However, the NER for secondary schoolage is lower at 23 percent with slight variations by sex (24 percent for males and 23percent for females). The rates were much lower for the post secondary ages andwith wider variations by sex (28 percent for males and 13 for females). The genderparity indices were 0.94 for primary school and 0.78 for secondary school enrollment.Section 6.4 showed that among the population aged 15 years and above, only 18percent had received any post primary education with lower percentages for females(14 percent) compared to males (25 percent). Figure 10.2 shows significantdifferences in the sex distribution <strong>of</strong> the population aged 15 years and above who hadleft school by the educational attainment. The women outnumber men among thosewith no education and lower primary, the men greatly outnumber women in terms <strong>of</strong>higher education attainment.126
