The 2002 Population and Housing <strong>Census</strong>2.6 MigrationMigration is the geographic movement <strong>of</strong> people across a specified boundary for thepurpose <strong>of</strong> establishing a new residence. The 2002 <strong>Census</strong> did not collect informationon ‘Usual Residence’. Therefore, the information on ‘Place <strong>of</strong> Enumeration’ is takenas a proxy for ‘Usual Residence’. Migration may be internal (within the country’sboundaries) or international (across country boundaries). Table 2.7 gives thedistribution <strong>of</strong> the total population by selected migration characteristics.
