<strong>Analytical</strong> <strong>Report</strong>SummaryMarriage is the most common gateway to family formation and subsequently childbearing. The data indicate that marriage in <strong>Uganda</strong> is almost universal, and that itbegins much earlier among females than among their male counterparts. Maritalinstability is more common among females than males.Fertility levels have remained high at around 7 children per woman, with minorvariations observed by religion. However, wide differentials in fertility were observedby the level <strong>of</strong> education attained and place <strong>of</strong> residence.The mortality levels for the whole population improved slightly compared to the 1991census. The life expectancy at birth was 50.4 years a gain <strong>of</strong> 2.3 years since 1991.However, infant and childhood mortality rates remain high. The Mortality levels werehigher for males compared to females.55
