However, before we do, stressthe following points :• There are a lot of important things HIV-positive people can doboth before and after they begin receiving ART.<strong>Facilitator</strong>’s <strong>Guide</strong>1Adherence to Treatment for HIV• Healthy behaviours such as a good diet, exercise, adequate rest,and abstaining from drugs/smoking/alcohol are important habitsto begin adopting before a person begins ART and can helpdelay the need for taking ART medications.• Just because a person is HIV-positive does not mean he or sheneeds ART immediately.• However, over time, HIV diminishes a person’s ability to fight offdiseases. When this occurs, a person will need to start takingART for the rest of his or her life.3.
